It’s hard to describe what went through my mind when I saw the victims, and that may have been because I was so shocked that I couldn’t think at all. The victims weren’t gory, nor had they been maimed. They were completely in tact—if you considered having no face being in tact. It wasn’t as though their faces had been cut off, either. They were simply gone, a blank stretch of skin in their place. Even now, picturing it in my mind makes me uneasy.
“Do you know what did this?” I remember Shasnar saying. I hadn’t been able to muster words to reply. The two of us silently watched a faceless man in front of us feeling his way across the ground.
“It was the Faceless Chickens,” Shasnar said after the pause. “It appears they’ve arrived here sooner than we expected.”
