Brief Author Bio: Hello! My name is Kayla, but I would appreciate it if you'd call me Lala. I'm 17 years old and I love to write. I write mainly poetry. I've written over 200 poems. I've started almost 20 books, but I've only finished one. The one that I did finish was written during my own little NaNoWriMo in January of 2005. It took me three months to finish, and even then it was only 40,000 words, so I'm hoping to legitimately win a NaNoWriMo this year. Thanks for your time! |

Synopsis: Wake
I'm changing books because I feel better about continuing one I started this summer. I know that's against the rules, so I won't try to get the stuff if I win, but I really feel the need to finish this book.
It's a spinoff of a book I planned in 8th grade. It started out as a fantasy. I spent a lot of time fleshing out one character in particular, and though I'll never write her original story, I'm keeping the heart of the character. The main plot of this book is similar to the character's original background, but with no fantasy elements.
Excerpt: Wake
I was born innocent, as all babies are, but my father quickly beat that unwanted quality out of me. I was only three years old when, through the bars of my crib, I watched him murder my mother. Too young to know what was happening, there was nothing I could do to stop him. He had 'friends in high places,' so he was never even a suspect in the investigation.
In his mind, though, he was locked in a prison, and I was his cellmate.
My life was a constant hell, but I put up a beautiful facade. Father made sure to never hit me where people could see the bruises, and I made sure to never let anyone see what my clothes were hiding.
