Excerpt: Naomi Tretheway: Werewolf Investigations

Man mom had it down pat. She knew exactly how long lightrail took Naomi to get home. Naomi'd just dropped her backpack into the chair by the front door when her phone rang. "What's going on, mom?"
"We have your brother." Some kind of weird voice distortion. Almost snakelike. One of her brother's must have gotten ahold of a voice changer.
"Who is this? George?" She glanced back at the caller ID half listening. Brian's phone.
"Brian?"
"Yes, that is the one we have."
"Right, haha. Very funny. Which one of you juvenile delinquents stole Brian's phone?"
"We have your brother and we know what he is."
"Sure you do. Enough's enough, just cause it's the weekend and I'm not coming home doesn't give you the right to sass me. I'll still take you down Georgie."
"We know what he is - "
"Yeah you and everyone else. Who cares. Brian's gay. Even mom knows. Need a new bargaining chip buster. If you don't tell me who you are, I'm hanging up. You have three seconds."
"On Monday at noon we will kill your brother on the steps of the capitol, after forcing him to transform. We have the names of all your family. We will announce that you are werewolves to the world. Then, we will hunt you freaks down." Click. And they were gone. That didn't sound like a joke George, or Brian, or any of her brothers would pull.
