Synopsis: Incessant: Who Made Rachilana Muan?
"Foreigners aren't welcome" is a slogan that some soldiers in INVERTO is starting to adopt. How can they tell who are the real foreigners, and does being from another country make them less likely to be a good soldier for the company?
Who Made Rachilana Muan? is the first in a series documenting the near future -- economic ruin, devastation, and all the bad bits like racism and xenophobia in the technological world.
Excerpt: Incessant: Who Made Rachilana Muan?
The woman slipped a bound contract over to Daisuke, who took it and began to read. Rachel peered over at the contract, reading through as well. It all made sense.
INVERTO is an organization that handles military contracts on the West Coast that the government cannot do due to lack of funds or due to the fact that it'd be bound by red tape. Being the last private military corporation on the West Coast has given the company lots of power and most of the contracts automatically go to INVERTO. Due to this, they have many contracts available but sometimes they are so stretched out soldier wise that there was a need for some new recruits who could do basic grunt-work. This would leave the much more experienced soldiers to do things that are more important and of greater need to the government.
As Daisuke flipped through different parts of the contract, she noticed that it literally mirrors the military recruiting. Albeit no bonus, housing is paid for and there's a monthly stipend. There is also a lot of training that needed to be done that was all paid for. Basically, all they had to do was go to training and they'd automatically get a sum of money. This would have been perfect for Rachel to take on since she was looking for financial dependence from the rest of her family.
Though, she noticed something towards the end that was in somewhat smaller text. The fact that they needed to be physically fit and needed to have a will ready in order of something happening. She then really understood the work that was going to happen -- it was real situations, not just some training or working in an office.
