Excerpt: Ravage, Guard and Battle

She stopped and turned only a few metres from the pair, just as Brynn remembered her hint at them seeing her powers. Excited, he realized that she had to lure the bandits into where she was able to use her powers; but why here? Were they in another region of the world? Was it the air here? Or the fact that they were in grass instead of sand?
The bandits stopped in their tracks and all was still. Brynn assumed they anticipated that something was about to happen; was there a scent of power within the air? ‘No’, thought Brynn, ‘surely t’is just the scent of the grass.’
Just as he finished this thought, several blades of grass beneath one of the bandits grew ridiculously large and, apparently, fatally sharp, as each impaled directly through the bandit before retracting, leaving him stumbling to the ground, wounds gaping.
The other bandits failed to notice this, as each had other problems to contend with. Two others had been similarly impaled, but not nearly as fatally, and were now fleeing, leaving a copious trail of blood in their wake, before collapsing a little further down the road. The one at the front, and his apparent right-hand man were bound by blades of grass wrapped around their feet, and, now, steadily around their leg. Their weapons were quickly knocked from their hands by the powerful grass.
Lorelei approached the leader as the grass wound around his torso. His partner was already completely covered in long blades of the greenery, creating a statue of emerald strands. She questioned the leader on who his superiors were, and why they had been sent here, but he simply said nothing.
“Speak soon, or I shall ensure your death is more painful than his,” Lorelei said, as she cast a finger towards the grass-statue man. As she pointed, there was a sudden movement from within the structure, and blood seeped out from every small gap in the grass. As the leaves contracted, it was clear the man had been diced into pieces in by the grass very rapidly.
The grass had already wound up to the leader’s neck, and thus he was forced to watch agonizingly as the bits of his partner fell to the ground and scattered themselves amongst the thick pile of steaming blood that remained. Unnerved by this, he let out a little information, but only in the form of short phrases. “Tóraí. He sent us. From Ceann.”
Turning on him just as the leaves treated him to the same experience as the other bandit, Lorelei approached the brothers, now kneeling in horror, and said “Go get a few hours sleep, we depart early tomorrow morning.”
