The young man didn't bother turning on the library light. He knew right where the book he wanted was. Could find it with his eyes closed. A smile appeared as he took it onto the balconyand sat down.
He watched how the moon shone down on the Cities for a moment, remembering how they had looked the first time he saw them. Then he opened the book and started to read.

My first memory is of waking up on the gallows. In my panic and realization of where I was, I broke the rope around my wrists and clawed at the one around my throat.
I fell to the ground and could only lay there in a daze. Ther was barely a moon, but somehow I could see all around me. Each knot on the boards that made up the gallows. Each string in the rope as it swung above me.
