Synopsis:
Naomi Clare’s eighty-seven year old mother, Rose-Marie, dies and when she returns home to prepare for the funeral, she learns from her older sister that she is expected to speak about their mother at the service. She very reluctantly agrees to do this even though, from her perspective, her relationship with her mother was a difficult one, marred by guilt and criticism and emotional coldness. Naomi’s mother was 44 when she was born and large portions of her life before her daughters were born remained a closely guarded secret throughout their lives. In the few days leading up to the funeral, the secrets of Rose-Marie’s past are, one by one, revealed and Naomi begins to believe that she really never knew her mother at all. But, on the other side of the secrets, new understanding and new relationships may just be possible, if Naomi has the courage to embrace the true meaning of her mother’s life.
