Synopsis:
Three Angels, a Divine assassin, a Prophet, and the end of the world. Ish.
Excerpt:
In the beginning, there was nothing but God. None know for how long He existed Alone; for Existence did not truly begin until His Loneliness became so unbearable that His Heart burst into pieces. From these, the Angels were born, imbued with the Love and Divinity of their Great Father. For an immeasurable time, they lived as His children and students, learning of Life and Love with every passing moment. They were nameless, although they had form, and free from worry and doubt.
Then came the moment that three happened upon their Father, secluded away from the rest. From a distance, they watched Him reach through the very fabric of Paradise to mold and paint and breathe Creation into being. One of them understood it as simply a further expression of his Father’s need to make; in the time to come, he would be called The Messenger, wisest and oldest in temperament of them, to visit upon Creation the words of the Lord. One of them was filled with joy at the sight of such Divine wonder; she would be anointed The Keeper, Holy Guide of Souls when they left the physical realm, the youngest-seeming and sweetest of them. The last of them wept, for she understood that Creation was not a blessing but a curse upon their Father’s Holy Soul and theirs; she would be known as The Functionary, the Divine Acts Executor and Actuary of the Lord God.
It was she alone who could foresee the tragedies that would befall their Father’s Experiment.
Time passed, and from the first garden sprang cities and civilizations, languages upon languages churning in heated masses upon the blessed Earth. The Three, designated the Triumvirate, the most powerful and trusted of all the Oligarchy, served with distinction in their Duties. The Functionary consoled her grief for the cancer Creation had grown upon her Father’s Soul with her love for The Messenger; theirs seemed to be an indestructible love, meant to last until the impossible end of eternity. But blinded by her growing furies, she failed to see his attentions turn to their sister; by the time these had come to face her, it was too late. And so The Functionary was desolated, made furious by the greatest betrayal she could yet imagine. She withdrew from the others, begrudgingly carrying out her tasks.
Then, by chance, the name of Joseph Harding was given to her by God Himself. Joseph, selected to be Prophet in our time, was on the path to ruin and death; The Functionary was ordered to intervene and prevent him from meeting The Keeper before his task on Earth was completed.
In an act of defiance never before thought possible, nor dared to be repeated since, she instead stood by and watched the Profit die. For her lack of action, she was Exiled- not to Hell, a realm that held no value to her, nor to Creation, for the furious God still loved her dearly. No, to the empty Space Between the Realms for all Eternity was The Functionary banished; unable to re-enter the Divine Realms, unwilling to descend to Creation. This, He decreed, would be the harshest punishment to be put upon her.
For her role, The Keeper was racked with a great sorrow; it was because she had allowed The Messenger to love her, and loved him in return, that her sister’s heart now grew remote and bitter as she existed in nothingness forever. She continued on in her Duties, but where once a bright light shone from within, now only a dim glow could be seen emanating from beneath her skin. Worried for his love, The Messenger came to her and in a moment of purest love, the unthinkable happened: A Child was born.
In an instant, she came to be before their eyes, a shock that filled them with terror as much as it did with love. Afraid of what their Father might say, they hid the Child away in the farthest reaches of Paradise where few had ever wandered. There she was taught of Life and Love as they were; there she learned of the history of Creation and its inhabitants, as well as the histories of the Divine Realms. But, as her parents always knew, nothing can truly be hidden from God.
In a rage, He called His two Angels before Him and demanded their explanation for this – The Anomaly, as He had christened her. They begged forgiveness that her life might be spared; for they had truly come to love this Child as they had never known love before. But The Anomaly presented a problem; born from Angels, she was not one herself for she had none of the Divine powers her parents and their brethren possessed. Nor was she of Human spirit, for she was in fact flesh and blood as she stood before them. No, she was something unique, heretofore unknown in all of Existence. Truly an anomaly, as the Lord God had named her.
It was decreed that to Earth would she descend; meant to walk amongst its inhabitants for all time as an agent of God. It would be her home; only if called by the Lord Himself would she ever be able to return to any of the Divine Realms. Not even death could touch her to bring her. The Messenger would be the conduit through which her missions would be delivered; The Keeper would be granted permission to descend as her Duties allowed.
A human name, it was decided, would be needed; though an agent of God, the ability to remain as inconspicuous as possible would be key to her success. After much deliberation, she was given the name of the first wife of Adam, she who stood tall and refused to be beaten down:
Lilith.
