Excerpt: Anti-typical.

A creature was sitting atop a tall tree. A magical creature, but a creature nonetheless. She was not regarded as normal, but who would be in her situation. She was a cross. One of those stupid crosses you get dinged for by everyone on the street. Her father had been an elf, and her mother had been a fairy, so you can just imagine how she looked.
...
Nyx rather enjoyed living in her forest. It was easy for her to adjust to, being so confident with its layout already. For eight years she played tricks on hunters who even dared tried hurting her beloved friends. Twisting the tree’s just right so that when they would touch a branch to walk by, a dozen more would come and whap them in the face; or sitting high and hidden in the trees and shooting acorns down upon their heads as they walked by. She heard a couple talking once about how there was talk in the village that this forest was haunted. That made her happy. She’d only have to worry about the stupid ones looking for a thrill.
Nyx’s skin was golden brown, and instead of freckles her face adorned small silver flecks that sparkled in the sunlight. She had bright green eyes that made even the greenest of tree’s jealous. Her hair was long and brown and would style as she told it to. She would say curl, it would curl, she would say wave, it would wave. She loved her obedient hair. Her lips looked as though they had been kissed by strawberries, and her teeth were pearl white, her two upper eye teeth were pointed and sharp. A trait she couldn’t quite understand. Her nails were always just long enough, and the tips whiter than a full moon.
