“You’re hiding something from me.” He stated, leaning over her on their bed. “Until you open up more, I’m going to rebuild my own walls.”
She blinked, unsure what exactly he meant by she was hiding something. “Oh, ok. I’m not hiding anything though.”
“Yes you are. I can tell. See, the thing about you is that your eyes give you away. I can just look at your eyes and know there is something going on inside that head of yours.” His hand ran down her side, stopping just long enough to tickle her and make her squirm. “You can not hide that from me. You may be able to hide exactly what it is, but I can tell there is something on your mind.”
Stretching, she shrugged. “Honestly, there is nothing on my mind that you don’t already know.”
“Bull shit!” He yelled, grinning down at her.
“It is true!”
“Give me an example then.”
Sighing, she rolled her eyes, pausing to think. “Alright, I love waking up to you in the morning.”
“Yeah, sure, I do not believe that is what you were thinking.”
She smiled at him, inwardly cringing. There was a wall there, she could feel it herself. She just did not know why it existed or how to rid herself of it. She had already admitted her fear of attachment and her hesitancy to get close to anyone, yet he demanded it of her. He demanded that she trust in him and open herself up to him fully. It is not that she didn’t want to open up to him; she actually would have loved to. She just found it difficult. Lifting her head, she gave him a quick kiss, “Shouldn’t you be taking a shower? You do have to work after all.”
“I know, I know,” he groaned, lowering his head to bury is face in the base of her neck. After a few moments, he was up and out of bed, grabbing clothes and heading to the bathroom where the shower had already been running to get the water warmed up.
Fay rolled onto her side, staring at the white wall in front of her. Pulling the blue-green comforter up to her chin, she tried to think of what was causing that wall to be there between Ryker and herself. There was no doubt in her mind she felt strongly about him, not quite but close to loving him. So why did she need that wall? What was it hiding?
She barely registered that the shower had been turned off until Ryker jumped onto the bed, pinning her once again underneath him. He grinned, planting a deep kiss on her lips before getting back off the bed and going to feed the cats and the dog. She laughed softly, the way the house was built allowing her to watch him move around in the kitchen. She may not love him now, she thought, but that was not far in the future; which meant she had to focus on figuring out that wall and fast.
“Ok, babe, I am off to work. I will talk to you later.” Ryker yelled as he grabbed his coat from the closet in the hallway.
“Alright, have fun today!” She grinned as she heard him grumble something about her being funny on his way down the stairs. Grabbing her cell phone, she checked the time. It was only eight in the morning, which meant she could get a little more sleep before she had to get up for her day. Setting the alarm for ten, she snuggled into the blankets more, giggling when Minx, their grey cat, jumped up and curled up to her belly. It didn’t take her long to drift back to sleep.
