Young Galahad waited with his governess in the nursery for news of his mother. He was four years old and his mother had already miscarried two children after he was born. The heir was old enough to understand that his mother was at risk with this pregnancy and that it could be the end of her, but he had faith that she would be alright and that the new baby would be born healthy. He was playing with his favorite stuffed horse and knight when one of his mother's women knocked lightly at the door. Goveerness opened the door and spoke quietly with the woman on the other side before she closed it gravely and turned back to her young charge, "Congratulations, my lord. You have a sister." The woman unconciously echoed the words spoken to Galahad's mother when he was born. Her voice trembled slightly as she continued, "Your lady mother is gravely ill and the physision worries that we may loose her if he can not get her to stop bleeding."

A great blow to a boy who loved his mother, Galahad very nearly dropped the toys and just sat in the middle of the floor for several minutes before speaking, "I'm going to go see her." he didn't bother to ask permission like he usually would, but just put the toys away and walked to the door, ignoring the governess's protests. The young lord knew well the way to his mother's suite and nearly ran the entire way there, stopping only when he reached the heavy oak door. He leaned against the aged wood, dreading what he would see on the other side of the door. After a moment, he squared his shoulders and lifted the latch, pushing the heavy door open and slipping into a room filled with his mother's women rushing around with soiled and clean rags. In the far corner of the room, as far away from the large fourposter bed and the caios surrounding it as possible, the eldest of the women sat with a wrapped bundle cradled gently against her chest. A thin wail wafted through the air, coming from the bundle and drawing Galahad's attention. He turned to the woman and gravely made his way through the madness to her side, focusing on the bundle instead of what he dreaded seeing in his mother's bed.

The woman watched with something akin to amazement as her lord's heir approached. She knelt as he neared and moved a corner of the felted wool blanket to let him see his new baby sister, "My lord, my I present your sister, Nimue a'Pendrag." The children of Sir Lancelet and Lady Elaine were granted the Pendrag name in honor of their mother's cousen's husband, King Artos Pendrag.

Galahad peared into his siser's tiny face, frowning in thought. He reached up and gently touched the fist clenched at her cheek and whispered, "Nimue..." He sighed and looked over his shoulder at his mother's bed before turning back to the wrinkled pink infant in the woman's arms, his voice almost fierce, "I'll watch out for you, Nimue. I'll keep you safe for always!" His young face was filled with determination, midnight blue eyes intense on the girl-child's face. Nimue stopped crying at her brother's voice and opened her own silver blue eyes, eyes identical to her brother's when he was born, and cooed as though acknowledging the vow to protect her.
