Son of the Swordsmaster: An Alex Falconer Adventure
an excerpt

It had been one month since Alex Falconer had decided to assert control over his own life. One month of living on the road, or ship in the recent case. One month of traveling across the United States, then half way across the Pacific Ocean. He probably could have done it faster if he flew. But Alex hated to fly. There were times he would go so far as to say he was afraid to fly. But that would have been ridiculous. Why would someone who's faced demons be afraid of flying?

Alex told himself it wasn't an issue with flying this time. This time, he didn't want to be found by those who had manipulated his entire life, from birth on. He learned the hard way a long time ago that he couldn't trust anyone. Recent events only stood to confirm those beliefs.

Alex looked up from his new copy of Phantom of the Opera, his eleventh copy of it since he discovered the book in high school. It didn't matter that be had read it so often that he knew every word of the book by heart. It relaxed him. It was his refuge from the chaos his life had become since he learned of his "destiny." Unfortunately for Alex, he learned he was the latest member of his family to adopt the identity of swordsmaster, and the latest member to be thrown into the war between good and evil.

At least, that's what he was always told.

He looked out over the ocean. The ship was probably two days away from Honolulu. In spite of the tropical air, Alex wore long sleeves, hiding the last healing remnants of the battle that allowed him to escape and go on this journey. In a day or two he would be nearly healed with no scars to remind him of the burns. At least, no visible scars.

He had been to Hawaii once before, a long time ago. It was just after graduation, a time when Alex decided to find himself by traveling the world. What he found was brutality, death, and destruction. In all honesty, Hawaii was pretty much the same as most places he had traveled in the three years after he graduated, with one very important difference. It was one that nearly made Alex stay on the islands.

Alex now wondered if that was another manipulated moment as well.

Still, Alex needed to return to the island paradise he nearly called home. He knew his search would begin there, a search that was started with one sentence.

Alex, you have a son.
