Shooting Stars

In the foyer, Hunter pulled Jocelyn over to a dim corner to catch his breath.

“You were amazing, you little spitfire,” he laughed.

“You weren’t so bad yourself,” she smiled. “And, I have to hand it to you, you didn’t freak out.”

“Much anyway.”

“You didn’t,” she said, pressing against him and wrapping her arms around his waist. “You were brilliant and funny and they loved you. You’re on your way.”

Hunter wanted to squeeze her, hold her all night instead of playing more of this game, but he couldn’t—wouldn’t. It wouldn’t be fair to her, and it would be torture for him. He pushed her back gently.

“Thank you for being with me,” he said. “I couldn’t have done it without you.”

“Yes you could have,” she said with a sad smile. “You don’t need me. But I wanted to be here for you. And I’m very glad I could be.”

He didn’t have any more time to process what she’d said before they were herded into the main room for the first event: an art gallery style showing, complete with photos from all the best photographers in Wyoming, and some of the best in Hollywood… including Jocelyn York.
