The only portion of the tortured soul’s matter not contained by physical means was its mind; this too was being relentlessly tortured. Vivid images of death, dying, suffering, and sorrow glowed hotly. Pain, abandonment, aloneness, and an indefinable emptiness, these simple words didn’t bring graphic depictions but painfully clear memories. Memento mori of a childhood none should ever have to endure, of a life that was so empty, meaningless, and never fated to be missed.
