Dark Wings

NEW EXCERPT!!!!

“Dude! You’re gonna be in SO much trouble with The Council. Seriously man, what were you thinking?!” Kohwi verbally prodded his friend. Demorian had not been home for more than an hour before the pesky angel had sought him out.
“Will it certainly wasn’t ‘Gee, how can I piss of The Council today?’ Use your brain, idiot. It was a simple mistake. I used up too much magic trying to keep my stupid ungrateful human alive and I couldn’t come home until my reserves regenerated. The fact that he woke up before I had a chance to leave is beside the point.” Kohwi just laughed, performing a little impromptu dance.
“They won’t care and you know it. For them, it’s pure and simple. You. Screwed. Up.” He continued his little dance.
“Yeah, well... it’s not like it matters. He didn’t believe me anyway. What was I supposed to do? Go along with the idea that I was some costumed weirdo sent by his friends for a little birthday ‘fun?’” Kohwi stopped laughing, becoming downright placid.
“All right, I’ll throw you a bone. So he renounced you. Big deal. It’s not like he can go file a complaint and change angels. You’re stuck together.” His blue eyes become calm and serious. “Give him time. It was probably a big shock for him. And forget about The Council. Just explain what happened and they’ll be fine. Even Axiel couldn’t find a flaw in that logic. Heck, I give Kim little flashes now and again, when she needs a pick up, or after something good happens, and you don’t see them after me with torches and pitchforks.”
“Yeah, but they like you Koh. You’re not an ‘anomaly’ with the ‘curse of Satan’ in his veins. No. You’re a normal, dopey angel that fits their ideals. Ergo, you do no wrong. Christ, you could probably tap dance naked in front of Kimberly, full visible to her, and you’d get a fucking medal. I say two words to Colin because of a mistake and my whole career is on the line. You tell me, how is that fair?”
“Oh my little raven, life’s not fair, is it?” A deep sounding purr sounded from behind the pair. Demorian gritted his teeth. There was only one angel in all of Heaven that dared to call him his “little raven.”
“Axiel,” he greeted coolly, trying to resist the overwhelming urge to gag as the seraph took his chin in his hand. Somehow only Axiel made his stomach turn in that special way. He was the only member of The Council that enjoyed wandering the Heavens as freely as he did. More often than not, it was because he was on a mission, and rarely one fuelled by good intentions.
“Darling. A little birdie told me that you spent the night on Earth.” His jade eyes flashed dangerously. “Israndora is very upset with you, pigeon. After he so generously gave you a chance, you do something so... taboo. I admit, it’s very you. Breaking the rules as you do. What are we going to do with you?” While his tone of voice sweetened, his grip on Demorian’s chin grew tighter. The angel twitched his wings, grunting softly in obvious discomfort.
“It wasn’t... that is... It was not intentional, Axiel. I had planned to sleep it off and let my reserves build back up. He just woke up before I did. I had to explain what was happening Axiel. He was frightened. Any of us would have done the same.” While he knew he was dancing near the edge of disaster, he couldn’t help what spilled from his mouth next. “It’s not something a seraph would know. Guardians would throw everything away to keep their humans safe.” He reeled backwards, jerking out of Axiel’s grip.
The Council member looked thoroughly displeased. Brushing the front of his robes with his hands, he glared sharply at Demorian. “Remember what we told you, Pigeon. Once chance. We’ll let this little offence slide. But mark my words. One more slip up and that’s it. You will be condemned, like the damned creature you are.” He turned on his heel before spreading his six wings and taking off across the Heavens.
Demorian shuddered, bringing his hands up to rub at his forearms. After Axiel’s warning, his entire body had gone cold. One more chance. He knew that truly, Axiel hadn’t had a hope of taking his small error to Israndora. Like himself, Axiel was not well liked. He was young, hot headed, and always ready to pick a fight. He had a temper on him, something that Israndora had never approved of. It seemed Axiel knew how to choose his fights, and this was not going to be one of them.
Kohwi wrapped his arms protectively around his friend. “Don’t let him get to you. There was no way in Heaven or Hell he was going to get that past Israndora. He just has a bug up his butt. Just chill here for a while, give things a chance to settle down up here and down on Earth. Collin will come around. You’ll see.” He gave him an encouraging smile before letting go. “I’m just going down to check on Kimberly. I’ll see you later.” Demorian gave a sullen nod before backing away to give Kohwi room, and just like that, his friend was gone.
