Trapped in Glass
an excerpt
“Say, what’s this?” I ask my friend pointing to a large, more accurately huge box on her front step.
“I don’t know.” She answers walking up to the box and reading the tag. “It says it’s for me,” she whispers reverently looking as if she wants to rub the box. She attempts to pick up the box and fails, panting with exertion. Walking up the stairs I grab the other end of the huge box and we attempt to walk into the house, forgetting in our excitement over the sudden appearance of its grandness. A loud thud resounds as Katrina walks backwards into the door, which of course causes her to drop her end of the box, and causing me to fall backwards when the sudden weight of the box landed in my lap. Falling backwards the box pushes me down crushing me with its immense weight.
“Well this is painful.” I squeeze out of my very crushed lungs, while pushing up on the box and trying to roll out from underneath it.
“Jeez, Marti, it’s not my fault the door didn’t get opened,” Katrina sullenly mutters finally stooping to help me in my escape efforts. Once I am free she turns and opens the doo, then grabbing one end of the box she starts dragging it in behind her.
“The box,” I puff after heaving the box over the mountain of a doorjamb, “has safely entered the house at last.”
