The Completer Set
an excerpt
We were the inheritors of mother's and father's labours and successes, but i was the only one who was weighted down with yet another family secret, one which weighed heavily on me. I was not certain that i could bear to be alone with this for the rest of my life. "I need to spend time considering this. i hope i don't crumble under the pressure" I said to myself.
I had to go to the house and make preparations for the tea reception. As i closed the studio door and walked slowly down the rutted path toward the house, running through my mind with each step i took was the mantra -"What to do! Waht am I to do?
I sat down on the bottom porch step and lit up a cigarette. I drew smoke into my lungs to relax me. As i breathed out a plume, through the smoke I saw Robbie scramble across the pasture toward the house with magoo, our old black Lab ambling along behind him. In their wake, Andy advanced with his determined step. As they approached nearer, I decided to put on my game face. I needed not to burden them with my quandary.
I made up my mind to write this secret and how it came to be, down in my journal, waved at them, turned, walked up the remaining porch steps to the front door and walked inside. Visitors would be arriving soon, and in the expected bustle I could forget for a while.
