Brief Author Bio:

I'm Flame, or Nica, prefer to be called Flame online though. I'd love to be a writer but for the first time is that looking more and more possible. I'm a junior in college, single (though definitely looking), and been writing since the 4th grade. I'm a Leo (Taurus moon and Sagittarius rising if any of you get that), obviously into horoscopes, into tarot cards (I can give you readings if you just drop me a line), writing, books, and making new friends. I love movies and English class. I'm both logical and emotional (it isn't fun) and always have two cents to give away on any topic. Drop me a line and I'd love to get to know you, discuss plots, or just help you out if you think I can (don't know how but hey, that's up to you). I hope to meet lots of great people here.

Synopsis: Pair of Jokers

Magic exists in the world. Hidden from the general populace those with magic gather in the cities. There are no special schools, no hidden train stops, no magic stores. This isn’t a world of spells and wands. This is a world of Fights, of blood, of magic. In a world where your magic is degreed by your Theme, not what words you say or what wand you own, Korbin Merlo rules. A rare Fighter with two Themes he's the unrivaled ruler of the Magic Quarter, or he would be if he had more ambition.

Completely separate from his world is Clara Acker; a young librarian working off her mother's hospitals bills and completely content in her boring life. She ruled nothing, not even her own home, but when she wakes up in Korbin's arms she thrust into the wild and dangerous world of magic and Fighters. Dazzled by her own new powers, and the attentions of two handsome guys, Clara forgets to ask the important questions.

Who told her she was normal? And how could they make it true?

Excerpt: Pair of Jokers

Clara Acker woke up kissing a man didn't know. The feel of his lips, hard and warm against hers, woke her up. Her eyes opened to stare directly into hard green eyes that, if she wasn't mistaken, were laughing at her. She broke free, or was released, she couldn’t tell, and took several steps back. She felt her heart race, it was awake the entire time, but she ignored the hot rushes in her body as she had for many years. She thought of her school days, back when she could afford to go away to school, and let the image of hard faced nuns lecturing her about math or God turn all those needless emotions away. It never failed, and it helped her keep her head.

A woman needed all the help she could get to keep her head around someone like the stranger in front of her. Hard green eyes that laughed while they kissed you were just the beginning. He was tall, clearly over six feet, and lean, all legs and shoulders. His arms looked toned, though the baggy and stained t-shirt and jeans hid the rest of his body. His face was an interesting meld of hard bone and soft lips. Those lips, possibly still warm from hers, curved as he stuck two hands in his pockets, leaned back and casually screamed arrogance. He was gorgeous, and she knew he knew it.

Her dislike was instant and strong.

"Who are you?"

"That's not important right now." He tilted his head just slightly to the side and smiled. She knew it was a move to make her heart melt, and body warm. Because it started to work, she pictured the nuns again. She couldn't let a pretty face distract her from the truth.

She went to bed last night and woke up—late at night—in what appeared to be a dirty alleyway, kissing a strange man she never met before in her life. She wanted to know why.

"I'd say it's pretty important. You kissed me!"

"That's because I wanted to see something."

Her cheeks flushed but she struggled to keep hold of her temper, she rarely lost it but it was always bad news when she did. She always looked silly.

"And what did you want to see?"

He moved closer, a slow graceful movement that made her think of a tiger, or a snake.

"If you knew who you are."
