Sleep Inertia in the Land of Milk and Honey
an excerpt
The bomb squad’s attempt to deal with this particular potential bomb was currently blocking traffic, and long lines of cranky commuters were using their horns to express their disapproval. Marie watched Mr. Kevlar waddle his way over to the object, which looked suspiciously like a Transformers book-bag. Chloe joined Marie on the balcony and stuck her nose through the metal railing for a better view.
Mr. Kevlar finished his job and waddled back to the rest of the squad, unspooling 2 wires behind him as he went. The horn symphony settled down as the onlooking pedestrians and commuters leaned forward to get a better view of the action.
A flash of light and a small bang and the bomb squad was packing up its wares before the cloud of paper and book fragments had even begun to settle on the bus stop. Yep, some poor kid would be shopping for a new book-bag tonight. Marie guessed that in Israel “the bomb squad blew it up” had probably replaced “my dog ate it” as the number one excuse for missing homework.
