Excerpt: Memories Are Made Of This

The story isn't finished yet, but this is what happens when I press 'Auto-summarize':

“Well you thought wrong. Imogen laughed. “Fanny.”
Mum looked beautiful. “Thank you Joy,” Mum said. Mum grimaced. “Mr Fairclough!” Do call me Archie.”
Why would anyone leave Dad’s school?”
Mum turned to look at me fully this time. “Lord Fairclough lives up in the manor house. Archie is his only son and heir. “You know your father,” Mum replied. Mum sighed. Dad said he thought Archie didn’t want to misbehave, but he somehow couldn’t help it.”
“Did Dad throw him out of school?”
“No,” continued Mum. Mum shrugged her shoulders. Dad quipped. “Ha, not really,” replied Archie. Dad nodded sagely. Mum cried. Dad asked at last.
Archie shrugged. “Oh Christ,” muttered Archie. “Archie boy!” bellowed uncle Arthur, at the same time as Dad said, “Thank you so much for your hospitality Lord Fairclough. Arthur queried, looking at Dad. Lord Fairclough shook Dad’s hand.
“Same old Henry Fairclough,” sighed Mum.
“Same old Fairclough nonsense, more like,” Dad replied.
Archie shrugged. Dad laughed and slipped Mum’s slender wrist through his arm. I listened hard, intimidated by Archie’s sudden enthusiasm. Archie shrugged. “Perhaps,” Archie shrugged. Archie fumbled with his pile of records. Mum and Dad…”
Archie nodded, so I smiled and walked across the room to the door. Fanny rolled her eyes. Dad scowled. "Archie, I'll be alright. Dad asked, his voice softening.
"No darling," replied Dad. Please Dad, please don't."
“Nell.”
”Is it because of Archie?”
Dad sighed deeply. Dad shook his head. “Nell…” Dad’s voice dropped in warning. “Love you too Dad.”

"No Archie, you've got it all wrong. Archie smirked at my stupid comment.
Archie beamed. “You must excuse my father,” Archie said. Archie asked.
Again Archie laughed amicably. Archie groaned.
“I do,” agreed Archie. Archie took a long sip of his cup if tea. “It would be my pleasure,” replied Archie.
Dad asked. Mum nodded wisely. "Lord Fairclough," replied Mum without bothering to conceal her shock. Mum faltered. "Archie's in the kitchen, having his breakfast."
"No," Mum replied slowly. “Nothing,” said Dad and Archie at the same time that Mum said, “Sit down Nell.”
“Archie,” I said imploringly, turning to face me. Train times?”
“It’s alright,” Archie told him. Archie shrugged. “Archie, tell me the truth. “Nell,” said Archie. “I don’t know what he’s thinking,” Archie said intensely. “It’s not necessary,” said Archie. Archie nodded sourly. Mum crowed with temporary delight. Dad clapped Archie on the back.
“Don’t be silly,” Mum said. "Look Archie!" "Oh God," Archie muttered.
"Oh, of course," replied Archie too eagerly. “What do you want?” demanded Archie. Mum spluttered indignantly and Dad coughed on his own breath but Archie remained neutral. Mum looked helplessly at me. "Mum!" Mum shook her head slowly. “What if that’s what Archie thinks too?”
Lord Fairclough sighed impatiently. “Come on Archie, be sensible.”
"Well? Mum nodded sourly. Dad tutted. What if Archie forgot or had said the wrong day? Archie's voice peaked with triumph. "So young Archie," Aunt Lorna said. "Oh Lorna," Mum chided. Mum started in her seat.
Mum added.
“Yes,” Mum said, apprehensively. Lord Fairclough was standing in the hall, scowling at Dad. Dad sneered. “Thanks Dad.”
