Paint It Black
-Beginnings-
If I were to write about my life firstly the title would be The Unfortunate Path of Veronica Martin-Marx. Secondly I would have to convince people that all of the events in the later part actually happened. You see I am the secretary to a vampire who doubles as a private investigator for all things supernatural. No one would buy a story like that. They would think it was fictional, not non-fiction. Good thing then that I have no interest in writing a memoir.
“That’s not good,” I murmured as I pressed the backspace key erasing all that I had typed. “Should I even be telling people this?” I stared at the blank space in the “Post Entry” box of the blog site I belonged to.
I shook my head, hit the small “x” in the corner of the window and sat back. People on cyberspace did not need to know that my boss, Carlos Schiele, was a vampire. Like they would believe me anyhow? The strange people I seemed to befriend online probably would. They’d probably think it was cool. No, they were better off just seeing my photos from the annual Black & Red Ball, a Goth happening that took place in Soma Vale every October before Halloween. That would keep them happy and safe.
I got up from my desk and walked over to the window that looked out onto the busy street. It was 8pm and people were heading to parties, bars, clubs, or the movies. I was stuck at work with my boss. My nightlife had suffered severely when I answered the ad for an assistant two years ago. What I originally mistook as a novelty gig for an eccentric turned out to be the real deal. He really did investigate things that went bump in the night and I had to tag along. Now my late nights consisted of getting spewed on by goblins or chasing nasty ghosts around cramped spaces. Oh well, at least it was eventful.
