an excerpt
"Hi!" she said, popping out of nowhere to plant herself right in front of his path.
"Hi." He said, with a small smile. "I wasn't expecting to see you here."
"I just finished work. What are you doing?"
"Well," he said, and explained about the noodle incident.
"Oh, that's too bad. Do you like udon?" She frowned. She looked down at her hands, then up at John. "We could get udon for dinner."
John laughed, "Don't you have a family to go home to or something?"
She hit him on the arm with her small fist. "That was rude."
"You're right. I'm sorry."
"It's ok. My family doesn't live in Tokyo. And I was going to get dinner for myself, so if you want to get dinner together, it's ok."
"Sure. Alright. Where do we go?"
She took his elbow and turned him towards the station exit. They began walking, her hand still linked through his arm."
"So," he said, "Where are we going?"
"Well," she said, "it depends. We can go to a really cheap but good place, or a really expensive, but fantastic place."
"Hmm. How much is cheap and how much is expensive?"
"Cheap is maybe twenty hundred yen at a little, tiny shop, like inside the station."
"And expensive?"
She snuggled into his arm, lowered her voice so that John had to bend down to hear her. "Expensive is about 50,000 yen and we get take out and go to your hotel room."
John thought his heart might stop. "I'm sorry...what?"
She laughed and danced out from him a step, then reeled herself back in. "Don't look at me like that." She stopped, stood in front of him. "I'm not one of those girls. I just...I like older guys, and they usually have money, and life is expensive in Tokyo. And you look like a nice guy.""Hi!" she said, popping out of nowhere to plant herself right in front of his path.
