Synopsis: The Theft of Miss Emma Hall - A Reconstruction
Mister Richard Wilson has invited his future son-in-law, Haley White, into his study, for a quiet night of tea and storytelling. Incidently, Mister Wilson chose to tell the story of Philip Roberts who, a century ago, stole Miss Emma Hall - a theft which eventually led to the downfall of the Agency, giving way to political and social revolutions.
Now, all that's left to find out is how any of these events are related to Haley's upcoming marriage to Mister Wilson's daughter.

„Ich hoffe nur“, fügte Mister Richards seinen Worten nach einer kurzen Pause nachdenklich an, „dass du nicht zu dieser Sorte von Menschen gehört, die immer alles vor sich herschieben und dabei nie zum Ziel kommen.“
Haley wandte den Blick nicht von ihm ab, doch er gab keinen Ton von sich. Mister Richards schloss die Augen und versuchte, herauszufinden, wie man die Geschichte an dieser Stelle am besten weitererzählte. Dann lächelte er in sich hinein.
„Ja. Philip Roberts hatte wohl dieses unglückliche Talent, sich Probleme zu schaffen, wo sie eigentlich nicht zu finden waren. Aber sonst wäre wohl auch alles zu glatt gelaufen, und niemand hätte jemals von der ganzen Angelegenheit erfahren.“
