No Idea Just yet
an excerpt

“I can’t believe how dark it can really get. No light. Absolutely none. And it’s cold in here too. Cold enough to see your breath if given the circumstances were where there was enough light to be seeing anything at all. I mean, I’m wide-awake, eyes wide open, and it’s darker than when I’m home lying in bed with my eyes shut. Now, of course, I’ve taken into account that I might be dreaming right now, if that be the case than I look forward to waking up and typing this here dream into my journal. Why I know just how it’ll start out. ‘I can’t believe how dark it can really get.’”
This is one of a bazillion entries in Cedric D Holliday’s Journals. The problem, with them, according to his Grandson Joshua, is he’s not exactly sure where the truth ends and where the lies begin. For instance, It is a well known fact that Grandpa Cedric grew up in Lynn, Massachusetts and went off to the Army at 16 years of age, but there is an entry from June of 1944 where he claims that himself and some rag tag friend of his named Huck jumped onto a makeshift raft and sailed down the Mississippi River, This however is believed to be an untruth, whereas at this point of his life he was fighting Nazi’s in World War II. The amazing things about the journals are when it gets to the untruth’s they’re written in such distinct detail that you almost think that Samuel L. Clemens, or whoever else was the author of the borrowed tale, was the one ripping him off.
One of Joshua’s favorites is where Cedric writes himself into the very same Holiday Inn lounge scene that Kurt Vonnegut wrote himself into in “Breakfast of Champions”. He goes up to his room before all the madness ensues, but watches what goes on in the parking lot with keen interest from his hotel room window four stories up.
He had been keeping these journals for quite some time. Anything entered before he was 30 years old is usually noted as having been written as a memory. Joshua, who is currently 30 years old wonders what sort of life changing event may have taken place to encourage him to start taking notes on his life. The only glimpse of some sort of epiphinistic event is mentioned in the first live entry. “Realization has struck me today. Learn from this as I have also.”

Joshua was a quiet person, almost the extreme opposite of his grandfather. His Grandfather was very outgoing and very involved in the community, but also very dead. Dead, by about 3 years now, and from his Grandfather’s Last Will and Testament, he received lots of two things: Journals and Money. There were lots of journals and for each one received there was about two million dollars to go along with it.
Of course that inheritance happened three years ago, so Joshua has had plenty of time to get accustomed to being rich. Still, every morning he reads his Grandfathers entries and if he’s lucky, he learns of some more reasons to love his Grandfather.
Joshua had woken up at his usual time of about 10:30ish A.M. He rarely had use for an alarm clock anymore. If he had to be somewhere he generally tried to schedule it for after lunch sometime or in the evening. A light breakfast, a light workout, and some light music were usually somewhere in the first 2 hours of his day. He took about a half an hour to shower, which he usually combined with his prayer time. A little life lesson he learned in Cedric’s Journals. “What’s often bad for the water bill is good for my soul”, reads the excerpt.
