Favorite writers: Garth Nix, Trudi Canavan, J R. R. Tolkein, Robert Muchamore, Stephen King

Favorite music: My music tastes vary from day to day. Currently my favourite artists are Mayday Parade, Sincerely Yours and Just Jack. But honestly, I'm up for all types of music, it's all inspiring in different ways.

Non-noveling interests: I'm a very versatile kind of guy, and I'm known as a person who will do anything once. I dance (Grade 6 Tap, Grade 6 Modern, Grade 7 Ballet - yes, I'm a guy) I sing and I act a lot. I also procrastinate and avoid homework a lot, too!

Brief Author Bio:

Well, what can I say? I'm a fifteen year old british student. I'm absent minded and am often stereotyped as a dreamer, but I often get told that I have a lot of potential. I'm disorganised and don't see it as a problem, I take life as it comes and I love to entertain. Hell, what else is there? What do I want to be when I'm older? Young. I joke, of course. The ultimate goal is to be an author, but I know the amount of luck you need for that - but it's not going to stop me ;)
I'll see you in the winner's circle ;) x

Synopsis: Ace, King, Queen

In a paragraph:
Two teenaged boys are hustled, temporarily, into joining a soul hunting organisation. Played off against each other by “Straight Hands”, they are forced to shuffle their own decks, make their own odds, and attempt to beat the system.

In half a page:
Gale Rose is a teenager on the verge of depression. Sixteen and geeky, he’s only just starting to make friends outside of his little circle. Olli Rivers is the king of Greenwood secondary school, and will do anything to maintain his popularity. Complete opposites of the social scale and at rival secondary schools, mere eye contact is almost as insulting as a punch in the face.
“Straight Hands” is an underworld organisation older than anyone cares to remember. A group dedicated to stealing people’s souls, they hide under the alias of a playing card company. Straight Hands obtain Gale and Olli’s souls, and offer them a chance at redemption.
Petty theft and assault are the least of Rose and River’s crimes, and two Straight Hand officials; Eilis Starr and Black Cyrus are charged with supervising the two competitors. As the competition heats, tension builds between the duos and both teens explode at those closest to them.
As the deadline for their offer draws closer, all four of them start to feel the pressure. Gale finds himself lost and blind to the support he has, Eilis’s emotional involvement starts to backfire; Olli, consumed by the competition, starts to lose the popularity he used to feed on and Black starts to feel out done.
The deadline comes, and it looks like Olli is set to be the victor and Gale will have to join Straight Hands permanently. However, Olli’s soul rejects him due to his addiction; and Gale’s soul is returned to him. Olli is drawn into the organisation and The Dealer doesn’t intend to let him go.

Chapter 1: Butterflies in the Dark
The cold air ravaged all of Gael’s exposed flesh, sending shivers through him, freezing the blood in his veins. Tears had come and made their marks down his cheeks, but they’d long since stopped coming. His eyes were dull and devoid of life; they were looking but didn’t see. His un-sleeved, skinny arms were locked in a weak embrace with his legs, and the only sign he was still alive was his gentle rocking motion.
He swallowed the saliva, and it roughly went down his throat. Every movement, sans the rocking motion, hurt him to perform. As he blinked, the residue of tears gripped his eyelashes together, and he didn’t have the willpower to fight for them to open again.
The crashing of waves and colliding of rocks below was drowned by the sound of Gael's heart pounding against his rib cage, each beat a desperate cry for release. The sound was the only, creepy comfort that Gael received - he knew that he was still, whether it was willing or not, still alive.

Chapter 11: Of Spades and Clubs
Dirtied by electricity, thriving on addiction and existing merely for the melodramatics; the peer is invariably a good metaphor for the world. Those that try to fight the peer are forgotten into the dust, and their efforts are often for nothing, and there is a sense of loneliness that can never be remedied. It’d been three days since Gael and Frankie had visited the peer, and the only slight change they could find was a new piece of graffiti. A new logo branded onto the world that had little chance of making it in reality.
Gael was smiling despite the emptiness he felt, easily navigating the maze of the peer. He didn’t know where he was going, but he didn’t care. This apathy was what guided him, because every dead end led to someone; trying to make their living, hiding in the shadows of their dreams, on the edges of reality. These people were the ideal targets for the competition, because they were insignificant. It felt horrible for Gael to think it, but due to their shady life styles, these people were often alone. They didn’t belong anywhere, to anyone, and nobody cared for them. It was this that made them easy to pick off, one by one.
The darkness of the night was kept at bay, the tide washing away any hint of reality. It was permanently day, and full of movement. The movement that took place in the peer was always monotonous, robotic, and devoid of emotion. It was as if the peer had lost its soul to the hunters long before Gael and Frankie had come there.
