Excerpt: A Game of Dice
10 am - It’s dark. It’s not normal. If it’s this dark at 10 am, has the world ended? I don’t remember. Wait how do I know the time and not know where I am? Right, watch. Not helpful though. At least I’m not suffering from amnesia. Sean Crowell. Sean Crowell. I’m speaking to myself, is that a sign of insanity? Where the Hell am I? Sean reached his hand out in front of him and touched a wall. He knocked on it and heard a loud gasp. Memory flooded into him as he kicked the wall in front of him and stepped out onto the stage. Countless faces of admirers cheered back at him. What started out as a smirk quickly turned into a broad smile. I am such a spaz. Why do I always do that? Silly Sean. No there were no skin tight jeans and black shirt. I’m an effin magician, what more do you want? He refused to believe in the purple cape ideal, normal clothes were fine. What had just occurred happened to be one of his easiest “tricks” you could say to start off the audience. Disappear and appear somewhere else. Sweet and simple. He was only there for two acts as a special appearance. Might as well make it worth while, it was time to add on the horror. The fentanyl had dissolved already and he was ready for it. “The Salem Witch Trials: did anyone ever survive?” He took a lighter from a man in the audience. He looked like a businessman who wished he could have been anywhere but here. Sean promptly flicked the lighter and felt his clothes burst into flame. The roar of inferno rushed all around him so he barely heard the people backstage panicking - they never knew that he’d do next. A sword was driven through his body…and the plethora of screams took hold.
