Excerpt: Tale of the Kihmera

I always hated those shoes.

I watched as the rain struck the skin of my leg. It ran in small blood-tinted streams that disappeared into my shoe - the shoe where my foot was still neatly tucked. I glanced behind me then, a slight tilt of my head. I could see beyond the twisted remnants of the interior of my car to where the driver's seat protruded from my body. A great pool of blood and intestines formed a macabre trail that led beyond the compacted rear window. The remains of my lower half sat motionless in the rain beyond it. It was a credit to my state of shock that I laughed, a clipped humorless outburst.

I am as good as dead.

Resigned, I watched the rainfall outside my window and listened to the people as they screamed and shouted; they skittered about like waterlogged rats.
