Excerpt: Never Again

The pounding in my head slows down while my breathing is difficult for me to control. I take hold of my right arm, shaking it a bit trying to get the blood flowing inside it. Ever since it was nearly destroyed it has slowed me down, but if I didn’t have it I would be a goner by now. After the few seconds I have spared my head goes just above the mound of sand gazing back towards the forest I was once within. Nothing inside stirred, meaning no one had arrived… yet. As I begin to stand back up to continue my death sprint I feel something heavy lay a blow on my head, right as an arm wraps itself around my waist.
