Excerpt:
“Neline,” I said quietly, and she looked around at me with that crushed expression on her face, and I could see the absence of light in her eyes. It didn't seem to be my sister anymore, but I tried anyway. “I believe you Neline.”
She looked away again and her face shifted, her jaw moving out and her blank eyes taking on a bitter tone. “I want to get this thing out of me, Waro, I want it out!” She gripped her arms together, nails biting into skin. I flinched a hand toward her, but I didn't touch her. “It squirms in my insides, Waro, like a worm eating away at me.” Her voice was full of bitter tears and disgust.
I wanted to comfort her, stroke her hair; make it better. I wanted her to do the same for me, but she wasn't that person anymore. And now she had to carry a child that the making of had made so much grief for her.
