Synopsis:

On the day of her death, Camellia Dacron was scrying for insight into her future when she stumbles upon an evil plan devised by Lord Nalimar. Aware of Camellia’s discovery, Nalimar kills her to prevent her from sharing this information and to stop her from interfering with his plans. Camellia’s friends, Gareth, Nezrene, and Adymn, find her body and close her wounds, but must get someone who specializes in healing magic to resurrect her. Adymn’s father, the warlock Dorian Rivin, arrives within 3 days and successfully resurrects Camellia.
An intentional feature of all resurrection spells, in order to protect the victim from further emotional trauma, is to completely erase the memory from the day of the person’s death, so Camellia is left with no knowledge of what she learned that day and why she was killed. Also, the spell Nalimar used to murder Camellia was of his own creation, and thus not able to be taken into consideration when the resurrection spell was performed, and some slight side affects are a result.
Upon resurrection, Camellia still has rigor mortis, and though a remedy made by Nezrene takes care of most of it, Camellia’s left elbow will always be slightly stiff. She also has slightly milky eyes, and visible veins on her lower arms that become more prominent when she is angry. Blood flow was also not properly restored to her lips, leaving them with a slightly grey-ish hue. Her hair and skin are also slightly paler than they were before her death.
A gift upon all resurrected persons is the ability to speak to snails, a symbol of resurrection. Camellia befriends one particular snail named Pom, who is very intelligent and observant (as he has a much longer time to observe things as he moves along) and he becomes her companion and travels with her in a magical bubble that hovers around shoulder-height. Camellia protects him from harm with her magic and he helps her work through the issues of being newly resurrected, and helps her discover what happened the day she died, along with the help of her friends.

Excerpt:

The girl collapsed to the ground, sending the small laurel twig she was holding skittering across the floor and underneath a bookcase. A small glass dart had been shot straight into her heart, and the vial within in was glowing and glittering with a strange green light. The substance inside the dart slowly drained into her chest, and when the very last bit disappeared from sight, her body convulsed and she whimpered quietly, unable to move, as her chest took its final breath. The dim candlelight danced off her face as her once deep brown eyes clouded over with a thin milky white film and any hint of a sparkle within flickered out.
