Keeping Track

Clara reached forward to push the shower curtain open, then paused, her hand mere inches from its edge. Screwing up her courage, Clara once again raised the knife and moved the curtain to one side. What she saw next caused her to scream once, twice, and yet a third time as she backed from the room and into the room. She began to scream a final time as she backed against something solid, only to realize that she had reached the bedroom doorjamb. She dropped the knife and fled to the door, not worrying if Willie followed her outside. There was a dead body in the bathtub, floating face down in several inches of water. Dead bodies trumped cats getting out, every time.
