Excerpt: Delinquent

As we snuck out the fire escape, I couldn't quite manage to stifle the slight edge of excitement vibrating around me. I loved this. I lived for this. Well, I shouldn't anymore, which would be why I was trying to stifle the wonderful exhilaration tip - toeing off campus was giving me... but all the same, old habits die hard. I got a certain sort of high off of beating the adults at their own rules. Breaking rules, shattering them to pieces, it was fun. Sort of a shove - it - in - your - face kind of fun, where the best man is the winner, and the other is just a pathetic loser. Surely a bad sort of fun, because it required at least one party who played to end sorely, but unique in it's own twisty way that just couldn't be replaced. I knew I should follow rules and regulations, I just loved that tinkling noise they made as they hit the floor and burst into pieces. I had left my steel tipped boots back in the room, though, not wanting to tempt fate...
