Excerpt: Fragment (working title)

Her skin crawled, becoming pale and tinged with blue. She felt her limbs and neck extend, her bones cracking against each other has they twisted and pushed forward. The nails on her fingers extended out into claws, curling slightly. Her long chestnut hair billowed around her, darkening to a deep indigo black. The skin on her back tore as long sinewy bat-like wings ripped their way out and sprung open; she barely noticed the pain. She could feel her canine teeth pull down in her mouth into fangs, as the skin on the small of her back cracked open, allowing a long thin leathery tail to sprout. Her dress was torn, but it was far from her mind as she stared down at her step-father, who had dropped the plank of wood and was now stepping back, a look of terror on his face.
She was a monster now.
