Brief Author Bio:

The name's Brittany, but I honestly will answer to anything. Common variants usually include Britt and Butterfly. That second one is because my typical user name at a lot of places is ButterflyGirl or some variation of such, which I made up when I was 12 so I'm sure you understand. The name Yirggzmb is even older than Butterfly and is my first choice if I want to be absolutely sure I get the use name I want.

In general, I'm just your average dorky college student. I still live at home (community college is awesome like that), don't have a job yet (soon I swear), and am kinda of immature for my age. Some days I think like a 12 year old kid, some days I might get closer to 16 or 17. This leads to unusual choices in favorite things. I love cartoons for one. Most popular tv shows I've never even watched, and to be honest there's things that cartoon people can do that if a live action character did would annoy the crap out of me. I totally <3 Phineas and Ferb.

I like to draw, sort of. My mind get pictures (usually humorous or random in nature) which leads me to enjoy attempting to draw comics. It usually doesn't work out, but I suppose it's good practice. I can only reasonably draw cartoonish figures with noodle limbs, which makes my art class I big pain in the butt. I don't do realism well and haven't been doing well for obvious reasons.

I really like to try my hand at a little bit of everything. That's how knitting and crochet started out. I love to learn things, and I especially love crafts or hobbies where there is infinite opportunity to learn something new.

As for writing experience, I have remarkably little. Which is weird, considering I communicate better in the written word than the spoken word. Then again, I'm even better if I can draw you a picture. I love to read though. I've got a seriously whacked out vocabulary, purely from reading all the time since I knew how. Sometimes words will pop out of my mouth that cause the people I'm talking with to stare. Go figure. I do enjoy writing, and with the exception of interesting plots or characters, I'd say I'm good. ;) I will occasionally get a scene in my head that I just have to write, and usually I like the way it comes out. The problem comes in expanding on the scene. It usually doesn't happen, which means I've never completed a story. Ever. I plan to change this with NaNo.

Random note: I love villain dialogue and hero/villain confrontations. Problem is I have trouble maintaining said villain, who usually ends up "going soft" and I have to come up with a new one. Need to work on that... But I'm hoping I can get at least one good confrontation scene into my story, even if the villain isn't important to the plot (or lack thereof).

Anyways, this is my first time ever attempting NaNo. I'm hoping I can make it. I of course have to fit in around school and my family tends to worry about me if I start obsessing over something. I sincerely hope that /doesn't/ happen with this, since that almost always leads to getting "burned out" before I can finish. That really sucks.

So here goes nothing! *dives into deep end without my floaty*

Synopsis:

A 14 year old girl named Zoe finds a strange hole under her bed that no one else can see. Not long later she meets a girl named Trish who not only crawled out of the hole into Zoe's room, but who acts like she's done nothing more interesting than walk through a door!

Adventure soon ensues as the girls rush to save the world from a malfunctioning source of ancient magic.

Excerpt:

She grabbed a plate from the start of the line and filled it with a little bit of everything. Vigorous exercise always made her hungry.

She found an empty table and began shoving food into her mouth.

"Hungry are we?" came a boy's voice from behind her.

Trish looked around and saw Freddie Boyle standing there. Freddie was a fellow agent, a little younger than her and just slightly lower in rank.

She swallowed the lump of food in her mouth before speaking. "Hi Freddie. Only just got back from Mission last night and already had to help out in the fencing class."

"Tough luck on that one."

"I enjoy fencing, but I've got too much on my mind for it to be a good distraction long." She took another bite.

"I know. Any word on the Earth girl's status yet?"

She swallowed. "You know about that?"

"I helped bring her up to the medical wing, remember?"

"I honestly don't remember much about last night. I was completely exhausted."

"She didn't look in good shape. Any news yet?"

"Not really. She's still out cold." She didn't mention the possibility of curses because it was only speculation at this point. Not to mention a privacy issue. "I'm heading back down there after I finish here. I feel like it's my fault, you know?"

"Not really. If it wasn't you we were talking about, I'd be surprised that you'd bring her here at all." He gave her a look that showed quite clearly his opinion on the matter.

"You know I'd never leave someone behind like that, especially when they were that badly injured." She gave him a look right back, clearly showing her opinion of his opinion.

"Yes, well not all of us are so worried about doing more than is our job." He raised his eyebrows at her, smirking slightly.

"If I'm dragging unprepared people along on dangerous missions, it is my job to make sure they get out safely." Trish leaned forward, looking him right in the eyes and daring him to contradict her.

"Perhaps it's your job then. Practical agents, on the other hand, know that their job is to fix the connection points as needed... No more, no less." He stood and turned to leave.

Trish stood as well, fork clenched tightly in her fist. "If you remembered basic training," she said, voice low and dark, "then you'd know it's not in your job description to leave people behind just for the fun of it."

He whipped around to look her in the face. "That can't be proven," he said quietly, and walked out of the cafeteria.

Trish sat back down with a huff. She was no longer hungry.
