Excerpt: Oops! Whodunit Again?

My parents: Tracy and Mark Holmes. You would have thought they were Sherlock and Watson themselves. Solving mysteries were their THING. I mean, really. Books, puzzles, movies, games... you name it? They had it down. They had met on a Murder Mystery dinner train some twenty years earlier. To this day, they will debate for hours over who solved that "crime" first. She found out his last name was Holmes, he found out her last name was Watson and it was love at first Geek. I love my parents, I do, but they are WAY into this. As soon as I came along, I became Agatha Christie Holmes. Cute, huh?

Like I said, a little annoying.

Ever since I was a little girl, everything around me had been mystery this and solve that. When I was really little, I had been given one Encyclopedia Brown book after another. From there, my mother had introduced me to Nancy Drew while my father had taken over the Hardy Boys. No sexism in this family, I'm telling you. Then? Agatha Christie and Poirot and all kinds of movies, too. It didn't matter if the movies, television shows or books were cheesy or downright scary. If there was a mystery to be solved, my parents wanted to see it and I was usually dragged along for the ride.
