Synopsis: Harry Potter and the Moon Princess
Technically against the rules, but I'm going to write 50,000 MORE words of my 2006 NaNovel. WOO.
Excerpt: Harry Potter and the Moon Princess
“Well,” Ami said slowly, looking at Hermione and considering carefully. “Here,” she stated finally, turning herself around so that she and Hermione could both see the screen of the palmtop at the same time. “If you look at this, here,” she tapped a few keys in quick succession, and a long Arithmantic equation in miniscule type appeared above a small wave graph with several lines interweaving across a horizontal axis, “You can see the native state of what you’re referring to as the enchantment field, when there are no electrical devices in play. This line, this line, and this line each correspond to a different frequency of the natural harmonics created in this castle. Obviously, the graph is simplified for clarity; the magic you’re employing here is extremely complex, with a number of interlocking layers. However, those three lines form a representational set of the main overlapping harmonic systems.”
Hermione was extremely impressed; a computer that could process complex Arithmantic rules and equations and graph them… She had been performing similar tasks by hand, using quill and parchment, since third year, and even simple Arithmantic functions could take hours to produce a stable, consistent, and correct graph via manual methods. This girl, whoever she was, had been able to get her computer to produce a highly complicated equation analysing Hogwarts’ persistent enchantments based off of some kind of invisible probing of the real world data, which was already more complex than even Professor Vector would do on a whim, and was able to produce a visibly stable graph from it in seconds. Hermione wasn’t sure if she was intensely jealous or merely in lust with the little palmtop.
