Night Watch

In an instance they were all awake. No one dared no, let alone breathe any more then absolutely necessary. The first sound, the sound the awoke them, was that of a pounding footstep heading up the short staircase into the house. It sounded as if there was only one set of feet, only one demon to fear.
Thump.
It was more then a loud heartbeat. Something was thrown on the ground, something heavy causing those hidden to jump. A sick ripping sound filled the house. The sound gave the impression of flesh being ripped from bone. Nothing else, not even a cricket, was to be heard.
“What do we do now?”
Rae just shook her head and mentally responded back, “We wait… and pray that dawn will come soon…”
Another thud from feet rushing up the stairs could be heard and the sound of something juicy being bit into. Dawn may not come soon enough.
