Streams of Redemption
an excerpt
But rather than fill Gabe with a sense of warmth and longing, it filled Gabe with a deep sense of fear. It was a fear that he didn’t fully understand, but it was mostly a fear of eternity. A terrible fear of anything that doesn’t end. Good or bad, Gabe thought. All things must come to an end. It gives purpose to suffering and meaning to joy and pleasure. How could eternity have meaning when there is no end to it? How could any of us stand doing the same things up there forever without growing tired or bored or, worse, disenchanted. This line of thinking scared Gabriel even more as he realized that he was afraid of the promise of God. He was afraid to be in the presence of God forever, but not because he didn’t want to be with God. He was afraid because forever seemed like too long to him.
