A Hole in the Sky
an excerpt
Chapter 1: The Bell that Awakens
Do you hear those bells? So softened by distance they sound disembodied, as natural as the wind. They’re spectral traces of something solid, memory-inducing revenants racing through time to have their way with me. “I remember,” I tell them. They toll their response. Yes, I remember. I want desperately to forget. I stole his heart, as the old song goes, and he would never let me return it. How self-centered I sound, even to this day. This was never about a man. It’s what I tried to tell him…
Golden waves ripple through the pink aether. It must be close to noon. I hear that sound, those bells, and I return to the Priory of the Green Mother, to the day I left for the first time.
