One day, Keleigh painted a painting.
an excerpt

She first saw Rodger sitting in a tree eating cherries. He was dressed in an all black three piece suit, complete with a tail that hung below the branch. It reminded Clare of a toucan. The man's large nose added to the effect.

His legs dangled below him as he leaned against a branch, and between cherries he sang:

"The sky ain't blue
And stars can't fall
And Joe's a big fat stanker.
And when I make an ode to Joe
I always call him a wanker."

Clare stood under his tree and waited for him to finish his verse before she called up to him.
"Um, hello? Do you know the way to Sanmose?" ...
"My top hat."
"What?"
"My top hat, if you please!" He motioned to a top hat leaning against the trunk of the tree. It had a bright purple feather stuck in its brim. Clare held the hat up to the man.
"Ah, purple today, are we? Interesting!" He appeared to be talking to his hat. Or rather the feather in its brim. He promptly plopped the hat on his noggin.

With the hat firmly on his head, he leapt down from the tree and landed beside Clare with a cat-like grace. He stuck his hand out to her.

"Rodger's the name, julumpy's the game." Clare slowly shook his hand.
"What's julumpy?"
"No matter to you, my dear Rose."
Clare was having trouble keeping up with the conversation. The man spit out his words quickly and tended to dance around every time he spoke.
"Now, what can I help you with, Rose?"
"I was wondering ... wait, wait did you call me?"
"Rose, Rose!" the man pranced around her. "Rose, you smell like a rose, dear Rose, so Rose Shall I call you, sweet Rose." Thoughts of curly brown hair and callused hands floated through her mind, but she pushed them away.

"Well, my name is Clare."
The man laughed manically.

"Clare? So Little Rose's name is Clare. How lovely. Now, what can I help you with, Rose? Have you got a question for ol' Rodgery Roo?"

Well, at least he's not calling me Stinkbug, Clare thought.

"Um, yeah. I was wondering if you knew the way to Sanmose."

"Sanmose? Sanmose? Why on earth would you go to Sanmose? It's a dreadful, boring place of good doing, God faring people. Why on earth Sanmose?"

Clare opened her mouth to answer, but Rodger got there first.

"Now, Catacomb, now there's a city! Crooks around every corner, thieves behind every back. Ah, yes, Catacomb -- that's where you want to go!"

"Actually, um, no, that ..." Catacomb did not sound like a place that Clare wanted to go. However, Rodger seemed to know otherwise.

"Um, yes," he mimicked, "Catacomb IS where you want to go. Come, I'll show," he paused for the rhyme, "you how to go," he paused again, "to Catacomb." He grabbed her by the wrist and started to drag her down the road.
