How do I upload a picture to my profile?
Once you’re logged in, click “Edit User Settings” there at the very top of the the site in the “My NaNoWriMo” menu. There’s an option there under “User Settings” called “Picture.”
Click on this link and use the form on the next page to upload your photo.
Photos must by 100×100 pixels or smaller at 72dpi, and must be under 30kb. Accepted image formats are JPEG and PNG.
You can use any photo editing program (even the Paint program built into Windows) to resize your image.
Please be patient with our dusty old photo uploader; it may take several tries for your photo to go through. It’s best to fill out all your other profile information, submit it, then upload your photo. If your picture isn’t uploading, try clearing your cookies and cache, then upload your photo again.

Updating your Author Profile to reflect that you participated in NaNoWriMo is a piece of cake!
First, go to the site and log in. Hover over “My NaNoWriMo” on the menu bar, and click “Edit Author Info.” Scroll down a bit, and you’ll see where you can add the last year to your list of NaNoWriMo years!
How and when do I get a shiny halo next to my name?
After a minimum donation of $10 through our Donation Station, you’ll get your very own halo to show off on your profile page and in the forums. We try to add these as soon as possible, but sometimes it takes a little while, so please be patient with us. Halos last until the next event. If your halo doesn’t appear after 2 business days, contact the store directly with your order number.
How do I post, edit, or delete a novel excerpt, synopsis, or book cover?
Everything in NaNoWriMo revolves around the novel. To get started, participants need to create their novel on their profile. In this case, “creating a novel” is actually defining a spot on the website for information to go about the novel, including current word counts, title, excerpt, synopsis and book cover.
To create a novel, login to the website and go to your My NaNoWriMo page. On this page, click the Create Novel link. Alternatively, you can hover over the My NaNoWriMo drop down menu and click the Edit Novel Info option.
On the Create Novel page, choose the current event for which you wish to define your novel (for example, November 2012). Fill in any of the other fields you wish – all of the fields are optional. Then click the Create Novel button. This will bring you to the Novel page where you can see all of the information you’ve defined for the novel!
Modifying Your Novel
At any time during the event, participants can update their novel to add, remove or modify the title, genre, novel excerpt, synopsis, or book cover. To do this, log into the website and head to the My NaNoWriMo page. On this page, click the Edit Novel Info link. Alternatively, you can hover over the My NaNoWriMo drop down menu and click the Edit Novel Info option. On the Edit Novel page, you can modify any of the information about your novel. To remove a book cover, check the checkbox under the cover image. To change it, use the Browse button to select the new image from your computer. Note that the image will not change until you click the Save button at the bottom of the page.
A Note about Book Covers
Book covers can be created in .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, or .png format. We recommend .png format for most images on this site. To add or change your book cover, create it locally on your computer and save it. Then on the Edit Novel Info page, click the Browse button to select the image from your computer. When you save the Novel information, the image file will be resized and upload the file to the server. Since the resizing can make images look funny, it is important to try to make your image fit the size requirements as closely as possible (230 pixels wide x 300 pixels tall). Sometimes the site’s cache will slow down the new image’s visibility for you (it may take a few minutes or hours depending on how busy the site is).
If you wish to remove the book cover, click the checkbox under the image on your Edit Novel Info page. When you save, the image will be removed from the server
How long can my profile items be? My town name is long and I have a lot to list in my biography. How big can a signature banner be?
Locations can be 64 characters or less. You can place information that won’t fit in your author bio!
Signature banners must be no more than 500 pixels wide by 100 pixels high.
