Hi, everyone!

Well, as you are starting to get comfortable with the new site and forums, I would like to direct your attention to our Google Calendar up there. (If you can't see it, click the blue header that says "Calendar" on this page.)

We have a Kick-Off Party Scheduled!

It will be Saturday, October 29th, 2011 from 2pm until 5pm, or until we get kicked out. The location is still To Be Determined, but it's looking like it will either be my home in Northampton, or a potentially sweet meeting room in an office building just off of Schoenersville Rd and Rte 22. I will of course update the event the moment I have a determination (probably Thursday).

The question is, then...CAN YOU MAKE IT?

Here are a couple important details:



  1. Regardless of location there will be goody packets and good conversation. Laptops aren't necessary for this meet-up - it's informational and we'll do a lot of talking.


  2. I am asking everyone who can come to bring one blank notebook and one new pen. They can be your favorites, or they can be the ones you bought but then hated once seen in your living room light. They can be 50ยข versions from Dollar Tree or something more swanky. You will leave with a blank notebook and a pen...just not the ones you came with.


  3. This event is friendly for all ages! Want to bring your spouse/parent/partner/friend? They're welcome to come! Please just include in your RSVP whether you're bringing a potential NaNo Participant (and if so, encourage them participate in my 2nd point above! (I would request that non-participating children under the age of being able to entertain themselves be left with another caregiver if at all possible.)


  4. Check back here for details as things get ironed out. I will update this thread (and the subject) as I have more details. For now, I really would like a head count of who can attend.


Please RSVP in this thread, and be sure to let me know if you're bringing a potential participant as a guest (so I can arrange an appropriate number of packets).

And we have a location!

Soul had a connection that has landed us a PERFECT place for our Kick-off Party - a conference room where food is allowed.

*squee*

Here is the map to 3400 High Point Blvd, Bethlehem, PA 18017. It's right off of Route 22 and Schoenersville Rd, and I believe is a central enough location for nearly everyone.

That whole "dad" thing is funny. My dad joined with NaNo last year...or the year before? Anyway, I always hesitate before introducing him. Is it, "This is my dad!", or "This is Jack, a fellow participant." So I play it safe. :)

If only I could get someone to cover =( I was thinking of coming over RIGHT after work anyway and just hope you guys are still there. Will the pen and notebook trade be done toward the end of the meeting or at the beginning? If you guys are doing it at the end I'll make sure to bring one to trade!

I hadn't decided yet - but it makes sense to let people choose as they have to leave from what is there when they have to go. And we will absolutely be there until 5 pm!

A clarification based on another's question:

If you can't come unless your kids come too, bring them along. I do not want to leave anyone out if at all possible. I trust you to know whether your kids would be able to handle a 3-hour event without becoming disruptive to the group.
