Yay! Dares thread. I've already taken half a dozen. It's such a relief to be doing a comedy novel this year, most of the dares won't even be out of place ^_^.
Leaving:
Have a character who makes T-shirts for the other characters with puntastic designs based on their roles in the story. BP if these t-shirts predict roles characters are going to play in the story. DBP if at one point a scene seems to be going wrong and the character who makes the t-shirts hurries on, gets two characters to switch t-shirts and suddenly everything makes sense (and there is a collective 'oh' from the ensemble).
Have a character who can only think upside down.
Have a character who makes everything a competition.
In one scene have a gun belonging to someone called Chekov. It has nothing to do with the plot, it has nothing to do with the scene, it's just mentioned. Then, in the final scene of the novel, have the gun suddenly return as a huge plot point. BP if it's not used to shoot someone, but in some other, random way. DBP if you can do this in some way that the reader doesn't notice the significance until after they've finished reading the novel (a Fridge Chekov's Gun, if you will)
You know what, I actually think I can make "a character who can only think upside down" "a character who makes everything a competition" and the mysterious gun belonging to Chekov, all work out! This is going to be awesome... you are so on!
If I change "Have a character who can only think upside down" to "Have a character who can only read upside down" I don't know if it qualifies as taking, but I thought I'd mention it anyway XD thanks!

Re: Dares 2011!
Alright. I think I can make this work: "Have a character who can only think upside down."
You're on.

Re: Dares 2011!
YES. I will use Chekov's gun! TV tropes for the win!

Re: Dares 2011!
Okay. I may have to take the T-shirts one. And the Chekov's gun one is just honestly too good to pass up. :)
Re: Dares 2011!
Taking the Chekov's Gun.
Re: Dares 2011!
Not directly taking this, but I am soooo tempted to have a character *name* his gun Checkov now...
Re: Dares 2011!
What about having a character who thinks that they can only think upside down, would that work? XD
Have a character who speaks only in movie titles.
DBP: If it actually makes sense.
TBP: If no one realizes what he is doing.
Re: Dares 2011!
I think I'll be using these. Not sure when, but it'll work somehow.
