Happy Friday, all! Congratulations on adding word upon word to your counts these past few days. Just think, you have a long, glorious weekend to either leap ahead even further, or get all caught up. (The latter in my case.) As you plan your long stretches of writing, we hope you find some inspiration in this cover, by Darren Haggar:
Persephone and Eris have always been close. Or at least, Persey has spent most of her life cleaning up her sister’s messes. They join “The Great Jeremiah Bach’s Travelling Circus” with the hopes that things will be different for them here, that they will be able to start afresh.
And things do change—but not necessarily for the better. The people are nice enough, and the jobs aren’t hard, but there’s something a little bit strange about the whole set-up. There is a talking tiger who plays dead for a living; a chicken man who can sprout feathers at will; a woman who has had more affairs than her husband (which isn’t the strangest but makes Persey feel odd); a man called Avel who lives in the “basement” (only nobody knows where the basement actually is); and a strange cloud that follows them wherever they go, like a perpetual storm is brewing over their heads. The star of the show is a unicorn called Nightverse—but none of the troupe members will say the creature’s name, and nobody can even tell Persey why.
To top it all off, ever since they arrived Eris has been acting strangely. She avoids Persey’s questions about where she goes late at night, and has a worrying knack for always being around when the worst of the trouble kicks off. Persey is beginning to get a little suspicious that Jeremiah Bach might not be telling her the whole truth.
The problem is, it’s hard to pin down exactly what the problem is—because everything here is just the tiniest little bit outré. And then, of course, there is that rabbit hole…
I actually think that this one is my favorite. It's an intense, fierce, not to mention gorgeous picture that seems to fit the story perfectly in ways difficult to explain. I love it!!

Are the names Persephone and Eris references to the greek goddesses of springtime and discord? I think the book sounds amazing, I would so toatally read it, and the cover is absolute genius.
Eh... I don't like it. At least, I wouldn't pick it up to read the back, and that seems like a shame, because I think the plot looks interesting. But the description seems to have a sense of whimsy and fun that the cover is entirely lacking. Just doesn't appeal to me. :/
I'm going to have to agree with this, unfortunately. And that's a shame indeed, because I would read the synopsis but I wouldn't read the cover. It's just slightly too cheap and kitschy for my tastes, and that while the synopsis makes me imagine things in a Carnivàle-esque fashion - being one of my favorite television shows of all time, of course, helps me associate every travelling circus with Carnivàle. Either way, I'm not sold on the design of this cover - but that's just because of the kind of style that sort of degrades the story a bit. But what do I know, of course, I haven't read the story and for all I know it fits perfectly.
Impressive one! Yeah, it reminds me of those 1950 novels, too. The cover makes me curious, and so does the synopsis. Damn, now I want to read the book. (:
Ooops! Sorry, Tiger, I was so poorly yesterday, I wrote not a word. I feel so guilty. and now I've seen you, Tiger, Tiger Burning Bright, I'm shaking in my boots. Please don't eat me. I really was poorly - and today I'm trying hard to make up for yesterday. Not doing badly considering I'm STILL not too well. Wish me a speedy recovery, tiger - and don't get wound up with me. Keep your claws in. I' ll make it up to you eventually. I will!
I'm not a fan, reminds me of a bad romance novel cover. That and the ladys hand just seems really really.. odd to me. Sad becasue the story sounds wonderfull.

Re: 30 Covers, 30 Days 2011: Day 4
Yes they are! There is a lot of Greek mythology in the novel, but it's mostly very subtle (with the exception of my main characters). :D

It's beautiful! Reminds me of those 1950's novel covers that my mum used to read, really pretty!
Re: 30 Covers, 30 Days 2011: Day 4
Of course I meant that my mum used to read the novels, not the covers ... oh well.
The story seems really interesting, too. Something I would love to read!
