30 Covers, 30 Days 2011: Day 20

Happy Sunday! We're abuzz today with anticipation for tonight's Night of Writing Dangerously. We're so excited to meet Wrimos from all corners. Enjoy today's cover, designed, as always, in 24 hours, by the one, the only Abby Weintraub:

<img src="http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_luz1vfYKTG1r0x68m.jpg"><strong>

Strong Like You</strong> by <a href="http://nanowrimo.org/en/participants/silverblown" rel="nofollow">Silverblown</a>

Northside is your ordinary, self-contained suburb, located on the edge of West Brookshire, the capital of Andis. Its inhabitants are friendly and good-willed, blessed with kind hearts that openly welcomed Mr. Leighton, a timid and observant federal cryptanalyst for the government of Andis, to the neighbourhood when he moved in to the semi-old townhouse on Main Street.

Their lives are a huge contrast to his own: simple, relaxed, open and most of all, burden-free. Or so it seems. Mr. Leighton watches as Northside's secrets come to light and its residents deal with love, loss and life as much as the next person. A pinch of prejudice here, a dash of greed there; with a spoonful of death, a cup of espionage in the neighbourhood, and a sudden war with the neighbouring country mixed altogether, makes a horribly exciting time for Northside and a life-changing experience for Mr. Leighton.

Oh my gosh!! I LOVE this one!! The bright colors in the center elude to something (that I don't quite understand) and contrast the beige cover. I would TOTALLY read this! I'll admit it, I won't pick up a book if it doesn't have a nice looking cover...

This cover is intriguing, especially the overlapping characters in the middle. I like the understated title and author's name, they give it a sense of primness that reflects the beginning of they synopsis. The synopsis, by the way, is wonderful.

I believe I'm still in shock at being chosen. I'm literally unable to form a coherent thought right now. asfsgghwg... Sorry about that. My thanks to Abby Weintraub! This looks absolutely amazing. Fantastic. Wondrous. I love it, especially the splash of colour against the dulled background.

Um, um, um... *tongue-tied again* This is so awesome. I'm kinda grinning like an idiot now. Thank you so much to Abby again. *goes to spread the news and hug random people*

Re: 30 Covers, 30 Days 2011: Day 20

Interesting. I think I like the idea of this cover, but I feel like it actually needs to feel a little more old-fashioned. I'm getting a very Stepford Wives vibe from the synopsis, and I like the idea of making it seem neat and precise but cluttered at the same time... but I think a little more retro feel to the elements would work in the cover's favor. Nothing extreme, just a little bit of "sloppy" printing technique and maybe a more obvious dot pattern to the photo, rather than the super-clean precision that is an obvious hallmark of Photoshop and its kin.
