Waiting alone in the gleaming ballroom, with the sprightly piping of the Vicar's flageolet wafting in from outside, Lady Barbara thought once more of tall Captain Wentworth, the one person left who could help her. He was now, according to three independent witnesses, shooting the pips out of playing cards at White's.
***
And
Lydia Towers, the only child of an extravagant gentleman, lives in Sussex. At 18, she has recently accepted a position as a governess and has no prospects. Her hair is jet black, and she wears it in elaborate styles. She is independent yet sometimes indulges in gossip. Her greatest joy comes from riding her horse. While caring for a sick grandmother she meets Benedict Gerard, when he offers her his umbrella as it starts to rain. He is an earl and has been very depressed of late. At first he finds her rather gauche and she questions his motives. But when he is challenged to a duel, she realizes that she cannot live without him. Throw in a Christmas snowstorm and things really get interesting. Are they meant to be? It's all up to you.

I think I'm going to adopt this one and see where it takes me. I've always like historical romances, and this is just really interesting. Probably going to work on it after NaNo, because I'm neck deep in planning with the one I have now. Haha.
Narian has been raised her entire life by a mentor, Tim. Suddenly, something happens, casting her into a different world where Tim can't get to her. Trapped in this dark and strange world of endless night, the one the mysterious woman called Death's realm, Narian must try to find the answers to the reasons she is here, escape the forces trying to kill her, and find her way back to her own world....

Just think of John Cleese in Holy Grail. He played a crazy wizard--named Tim--and rocked it! It really gives you a whole new respect for the name Tim. :)
Adopting! With a few tweaks, including names of characters. I should have known better than to scroll through this thread when I already had a plot in mind.
When trying to think of a plot, I thought of a bunch that I do not want to use, but others may:
The year is way ahead in the future. For whatever reason we can think of - the world is in anarchy. Teenage girl lives in a group of badass girl 'bikers' (hoverboarders? c:) that travel around to each city trying to survive. They used to be a group of girls that went to elementary/middle together before whatever disaster caused this to occur. Before the disaster, she also had a boyfriend who she lost contact with. She presumed him to be dead. But one day she finds a clue that he might still be alive, and she tries to get the whole group of girls to help find him.
A curious girl who hated the outdoors, loved the indoors. One day her family makes her go camping because both the parents and her brother (optional) love it. When they are at the campsite. Either her family asks her to do something, or maybe she needed to do something, or whatever reason you pick: She gets lost in the woods. She panics and can't find her family. After X amount of time, she runs into a little forest-boy. They dislike each other, but eventually become close. Or, he could have a family and the family are hippies or foretpeople, and she stays with them. Then you can take the story from there c:
A girl who lives on her own in high school - her parents either died/left/whoknowswhat at a young age and she didn't wnat to be adopted, so she figured out some way to keep the house and live on her own, which happened to be work as a prostitute for this big buisness man. He doesn't treat her the best, but doesn't abuse her. After a while of this, the big businessman hires a new secretary, or worker, or it's his SON! Either way, there is now a man who is working/helping out the big business man, and he is always seeing her and thinks she is beautiful and wants to hlep her out, and then the story goes on from there however you wish it.
such a dangerous thread...should have stayed away as I have my Nano plot figured out. Just wanted to read and see what people had here but kept coming back to this one no one claimed yet. SOOOO I am taking number 1 for after Nano....
I've got a few ideas, but you had me with the hoverboard hint, so I'm gonna take the first one and save it for future use. I may tweak it of course, but I hope you don't mind!
I have a few character that have been with me forever and I have never been able to settle on a plot for them. And yet here you are setting a stage for them! I thank you and will steal this promptly!
i was going to use this one, but i did a twin theme last year..dont want to repeat!!!
Iris Kelly is a normal girl, brown hair brown eyes maybe a little less then perfectly skinny, and its halloween. Her and her friends decided to play the Qouij board becuase its halloween and a teenage boy a few towns over just died of mysterious causes. The girls obviously dont know the Qouij board can actually work, or they never would have tried, but they do contact the spirit of the dead boy, John. John comes out of the board, although the girls cant see him and he sees Iris. the girls eventually give up the Ouiji board because they are tired, but they dont properly say goodbye, so John is still among them. In the middle of hte night Iris wakes up and John makes himself visable to to her, and such and eventually John and Iris try to find out who killed him, and they somehow fall in love a bit...
now when i was going to do this i wanted to make the killer john's twin brother, and have john kill him and posess his body so he and Iris could get together, but thats just me :) enjoyyy

Something for those if you who are equally last minute.
2 sisters are really close. One falls pregnant, but loses the baby pretty late in the pregnancy. Now the other is contemplating falling pregnant with her husband. What about her sister's failed pregnancy affects her? Is there any jealousy? How will this affect their relationship to each other and their husbands?
I'd love to write it, but as it's partly based on real life, I'm a bit too close to it (except in reality my sis had a second baby that she carried to term before we were thinking about it)
Well, I've had this idea forever, but I'm having a hard time writing it.
MC is a teenage/young adult/adult girl, and she is in love with her boyfriend/fiancee/husband. Most of this book is told through flashbacks--when they met, their first date, etc., etc. You get little pieces of the present throughout the book, but only at the very end do you realize that her boyfriend/fiancee/husband is now dead. It's a romance with what i have always pictured as a heartbreaking ending.

aah, that would be so sad, i definetly want to adopt this one
An organization recruits people who've lost everything through some sort of personal disaster (car accident, disease, murder, etc.) to train them as elite fighters. Throughout the book, I imagined the organization seeming very kind and benevolent, but in the end the MC discovers they're the ones staging the catastrophes in order to recruit individuals they feel are especially promising.
Pretty bare bones, but could make for a good thriller.
My heart went all ba-bump when I saw this, because it's frightening how close this is to my idea for this year, and this filled in some nice details. So thanks for this.
Reminds me of Kingdom Hearts and the organization XIII with people who have lost their hearts and have been trained to be extremely good fighters :) -Ninaizawsum11

Im adopting this and tweaking it... it fits well with my concept
well, I think I might tuck this one away for a project later on as well, I think it might just fit into one of my still on the verge of being an actual idea ideas. So thank you... adopted!

Hmm. mind if I maybe add this in to my plot now? my writing fire is BACK!!!!! THANK YOU!!!! BLB <3
Some people said the animal spirits live within their people. They are there to guide a person in life and occasionally protect them. Some people say the animals don't exist, that they are just stories from a past that need to be let go.
When dark magic attacks, both sides of the argument are going to learn a painful truth. The Animal Spirits are real, and they are very angry.
I tried to give this fantasy a good home, but it just isn't working for me. Hopefully someone else will see it's true worth.
This looks cool. I'm taking to have a go at after NaNo has finished :). If it works out I'll let you know how I get on but I am slow at writing outside of NaNo so it might take me a while.
I like this too, especially because I love animals and it's true they really could be sent here by God to help protect us. I may wait til after nano though as I think I already have a plot for that, but will definitely use.
i like the part of Animal guides...being a Native American I understand the importance of such. That said, I may not steal the whole plot, but the using of animals in my plot might just work on some level. thank you for the inspiration! Pen

This is the basis for an RP charrie I've been playing with for a few years. lol! Just thought that was a neat coincidence. *goes back to plot hunting*
Here are a few of my old ones hanging around the ideas folder that probably won't ever get written by me...hopefully someone else can make use of them and give them a good home!
1)The Greek gods, due to some sort of divine accident, are stuck as mortals and are reborn anew each time they die. The way I imagined it was from Athena's perspective (she's my favorite...but you could pick another if you like) in modern day high school as she grows up in her newest life. She's had her memories back for a while and knows who she is, but is only just starting to find her divine family scattered across the modern world. I thought they'd probably be trying to find a way to break the cycle of mortal reincarnation and get back to their god states, something they'd been trying and failing to do for centuries, but do with it what you will.
2) A parody of the superhero story. In this world there are quite a few people born with powers, and there are schools to accomodate these people. Villains go to villain school, heroes to hero school, and sidekicks to sidekick school, where they learn all of the techniques they need to do their job.
The only problem is, the schools teach ridiculously over-cliche and dramatic techniques that always seem to result in the same epic battle with the villain making the same mistakes and losing. The way I imagined it, the MC1's parents forced her to go to hero school even though she didn't want anything to do with the whole hero business because they're such quacks. MC2 wanted to be a hero more than anything but only got into sidekick school, due to his powers being less than spectacular. Both are upset, and wind up being assigned to one another as part of a school program to create teams early.
MC3, the villain, is an actual genius and realizes what idiots the villains are for always making the same mistakes. Properly equipped with the Evil Overlord list, he starts to break all of the established rules and cause real trouble. The heroes, faced with a real threat from a cunning adversary, start to panic. MC1 and MC2, as two of the only halfway normal people on the hero side, are the only ones who might be able to stop him.
Number 1 is similar to something I already have in the works so I'm going to take to add to the mix of that story :). If it ever gets finished I'll let you know how I did with it.
I am adopting #2 to my "waiting plot babies" notebook. I love the idea! I am still a little indecisive about my Nano 2011 story, maybe this will hook me in the next few weeks. I'll let you know if it makes it's way out of my notebook and into something bigger!
The second reminds me of Sky High, a disney movie from like 5 years ago. But the smart villian twist is TOTALLY different, but perhaps you could get some ideas from the movie :)
I really like Number 1, but fear my knowledge of mythology (of any type) is too rusty to use it this year. I can foresee a good chunk of my text being placeholders and/or me spending a lot of time in research instead of actually writing. Definitely parking it in my plot stash, though, and maybe I'll use it next year. Thanks for the idea!
I had an AWESOME plot device like this, only involving the Endless from Neil Gaiman. And they werent reborn as mortals, per se, the children were conceived/formed in their realms.....Maybe an idea to go back to?
That first one is actually an interesting idea. Don't usually see that with all the other Greek God based plots thrown around. I may have to try that...
I like this one, but perhaps the twist is that the MC is the Villain to be... His/her main obstacle is fighting a system that's rigged to fail the villain... could be quite fun!!

Fyi, wanted to share that I did actually snatch this one and it's going well thus far. Much thanks. <333
The first also vaguely reminds me of a book I started to read once and never finished, come to think of it. It... had something to do with the apocalypse... or just the gods bickering. And each of the old pantheons put one representative into a human body for a duel-to-the-death type thing to see who would get to rebirth the world... or something.

I really love this one. I've been looking for a "not depressing" story (as my dad likes to say), and this fits the bill PERFECTLY. Thank you for this. Camp NaNo, here i come!
Rachel's life was turned upside-down when her father was murdered, now she's back in her home town to heal and to try to get her life back together. Former town bad boy, Emery, has been waiting for years for Rachel to return, to meet her as an equal and to win her respect and maybe her love. But it won't be easy. Especially as someone from Rachel's past thinks she knows more about her father's death than she's letting on... and will kill to keep old secrets buried.
With a little switching of the sexes, this could work... toying with the "return home to heal" theme for this year's nano sci-fi write. Thanks for the inspiration! Pen

Totally adopting this!
since I fell in love with this plot my original one needs a new home...
6 year old Lily Tretcher and 10 year old Grace Tretcher set off on a world of adventure as they drift off into a sleepy wonderland of sweet adventure. Mount Carmel is under seize by an evil dentist who has made it her mission to rid the world of this happy sweets filled city. Led by Mayor Carmel follow Lily and and Grace's adventures as they travel through the many towns of Mount Carmel and take back the city!

If anyone adopts this, I am always happy to read the story, if one is looking for someone to read it. (I'd love to see where my baby ends up!).
FMC has a good life. She lives with her cousin in a roomy appartment, has a perfect boyfriend, good friends and is a perfect student. When Halloween comes around, things will change. As she gets ready for a party there is a knock on her door and when she opens it, she finds her prince charming. Literary. A handsome young man, with a great sense of humor and wit, is standing claiming to be her soulmate. She however has never met the guy and isn't really keen on destroying the perfect life she has because he tells her to. He is stubborn, won't give up and eventually she allows him in as a friend. And they grow closer. And then the question is if she will fall for him, and who she'll choose or if she allows herself to choose. And why the hell Prince Charming knows he is her soulmate. Or claims that he knows that.
May I take this to add to my list of stories to write outside of NaNo? When it gets written (although it may take me a while) I'll let you know, if you'd like to take a look.
In 1808 France two men were in contention over a lady. They decided to settle it like modern gentlemen by having a duel while floating high above Paris in a pair of balloons. They both drew and fired. One of the contestant's balloon was punctured by his opponent's blunderbuss and he fell half a mile to his death.
The above is an actual true story. Write a fictionalized version of the events leading up to this duel.
good one... could be translated into sci-fi easily enough. Won't work for the plan I have for Nano this year, but will tuck away for future use. Then, again....maybe a duel of some sort will appear...who knows, the story hasn't told me what it wants to do, yet. Thanks for the inspiration. Pen
A typical story about a boy who has feelings for a girl he admires. His best friend is a killer. And the girl he loves is a crack whore. He gets involved in political intrigue, faces a moral dilemma of whether to kill to save, or let things run their due course. As he discovers more about the pasts of his inner circle. He wonders who to trust, and what is the importance of his existence.
Hmmm...this is giving me interesting ideas. My main character is a boy - can I borrow the best friend killer and the girl (if not crack whore, at least trouble in some way)?
The crew of an submarine that is due to be scrapped steal the vessel and remove all the warheads inside, leaving only the missiles. Then, they start an unconventional business with the ship: They use the rockets to launch coffins into space. Problems start when the boat runs out of missiles and when one of the coffins accidently shoots down an US spy sattelite.
Seriously, this gave me quite a moment of chuckling. I can just picture flying coffins... reminds me of an episode of "Voyager" where bodies are beamed onto an empty asteroid, only Voyager get's too close and bodies start appearing on the ship. Wonder what would happen if a misfire resulted in a coffin falling back to take out a major city landmark. Who would be charged, the people in the subs, or the corpse? Still chuckling... Pen
1) A bachelor spreads rumors of his personal wealth to attract a girlfriend. He attracts someone--or something--else.
2) A girl claims a food allergy in an attempt to make herself interesting to her peers/her family/etc. But now she has trapped herself in a lie and must live by it. Years pass. She wants to escape this lie but doesn't know how.
3) Your MC has the chance to change one thing from his/her past and must make their decision in three days. What would s/he change and how will the change affect their current life? A variation of this plot is that the MC is forced to change something from his/her past (or suffer some sort of punishment). S/he is comfortable with their present life but have no choice otherwise. What do they change and how are they affected?
4) A husband swears to discharge his wife of all responsibility to him, for they cannot obtain a divorce, but neither can they remain together. But he returns, years and years and years later, and demands his share of her fortune. She refuses him, and charges him to recall his his vow. He refuses to drop his demand. Cue attempts upon his part to steal the letters (evidence of his vow) and burn them... Inspired by Daniel's Defoe's "Moll Flanders."
5) Three men (though feel free to play with the gender of any of the characters) — MC1, former national hero at odds with the political corruption of his queen and ex-lover; MC2, an idealistic prince in exile; and MC3, a former general whose recklessness led to the slaughter of his men — find themselves without money or friends amid the smoke, grunge, and corruption of the City. Homeless, starving, and hunted by enemies, the men seek the protection of the Governor, only to discover that they must join his underground tournament, an illegal operation that feeds off the unquenchable bloodlust of the City’s citizens. But the fights conceal an even deeper corruption from the public eye: the forces that first ruined the lives and careers of the main characters are linked and they are reaping havoc throughout the city. The MCs are trapped in a tight spot. To abandon the tournament is to damn themselves to a slow death in the city streets. But to continue fighting is to support the political machines that were their original downfall. The MCs must choose between the lesser of two evils — and any decision they reach will have long-reaching consequences for the City, their homelands… and themselves.
I'm going to incorporate parts of #5 into a story I tried to write for NaNo back in '09. I think, using that, I may be able to fill in the missing bits and make the story workable. :D
Thank you for #1. I am adding it to my 'Plot Nibbles' file so that I may refer to it. It may or may not be a novel. If it does become my NaNo, I'll let you know (and credit you, of course)! Thanks again!
This was supposed to be this year's NaNo, but I dropped it due to the slightly heavy amount of research I'd have to fit into my college schedule.
It's 1924 in New York. The story is about a young woman who dreams of becoming/being a Flapper, but doesn't yet have the nerve to confront her uptight parents about it. She finds out that in fact, her family made their enormous amount of money through organized crime, the Mafia, and that she herself is the descendant of a rather important Mafiosi. Add to that when her parents reveal to her, that she is supposed to marry one of the grandsons her age of the Savarese family, one she doesn't particularly like and it also thwarts her plans to become a flapper. Bonus points if you can get her to actually dabble in the work of the Mafia herself.
If you adopt it, please send me a nanomail so I can buddy you :)
"Aliens invade the planet. Aliens who look a lot like us, but who are much more violent and bloodthirsty, and who are willing to kill anyone and everyone who stands in their way of taking over. The story could follow any number of characters - soldiers defending their planet, rebels who take matters into their own hands, or a band of innocents just trying to survive. In the end, it's revealed that the "aliens" are actually humans from Earth, on a voyage to conquer alien planets."
Could I possibly adopt this, and tweak the ending, please?
Love the idea! Could branch out so well. Sadly, though, it doesn't fit into my nano for this year. I'll tuck it away in my "snippets" file to pull out later and play with. Thanks for the inspiration. Pen

Considering adopting this. It sounds like it'd be fun to work with.
Various ideas, some of which I've posted in past Adopt-a-Plot threads.
Quote:1) A young, single, heavily pregnant woman named Mary gets lost while driving in the country. Her GPS stops working. Then she runs out of gas. And her cell phone battery dies. Plus, night is falling. And it's starting to rain. Things are looking pretty grim for Mary. She remembers seeing a farm not too far back, so she leaves her car on the side of the road and starts walking. When she reaches the farm, she finds that no one is home, so she takes refuge in the stable amongst the livestock.
And then she goes into labour.
When the three brothers who own the farm return, they are shocked to see Mary and her newborn son lying in a bed of hay in their stable. They are even more shocked to see that she's laid the child in the manger. And even more shocked to learn her name. One of the men breaks out the Bible he carries with him at all times, and starts reciting the story of Jesus's birth.
They herald Mary's son as the Second Coming, and Mary herself as the Mother of God. Word gets out, and the story of Mary and her son becomes a nationwide sensation. People all around the country flock to see her and the child they believe is Jesus.
The problem is, Mary is an athiest.
I see this as a comedy with a lot of hijinx as Mary tries to convince the world that her child isn't the Son of God. Or is he...?
Quote:2) The United States is once again the target of a terrorist attack. A biological weapon is unleashed in the nation's largest cities - a deadly virus that targets only the y chromosome, making all females automatically immune. Naturally, something goes terribly wrong and the virus doesn't just kill it's victims - it reanimates them into primal, vicious monsters.
What would happen in a zombie apocalypse that only affected men? Would the belief that women were inherently weaker and more docile than men be proven true, or would the women fight back as hard as they could? Would the surviving men be given power and heralded as kings, or be kept as reproductive slaves, valued only for their sperm?
With the latter scenario, the story arc could follow a woman and the man she loves as they try to escape not only the hordes of zombies occupying every city, but also the new regime that would separate them and enslave him for the rest of his life.
Quote:3) A modern take on Romeo and Juliet. A hitman falls in love with his target, and can't bring himself to kill her. His superiors warn him that he must follow orders or be terminated himself... literally. He devises a plan to fake her death to save both of them from his agency, but it somehow goes horribly wrong and they both end up dead.
Quote:4) A group of friends spend the night in an abandoned building which, decades ago, had been a women's school, and is supposedly haunted by the girl whose brutal murder caused the school to be closed down. They see no ghosts, but our main character has a vivid and disturbing dream which, though she doesn't realize it at first, is actually a memory of a past life. The story follows her gradual discovery of this past life, in which she was a student at the school... the same student who is rumored to haunt the building. Her murderer would turn out to be the ancestor of her present-day lover, or something as equally sensational.
Quote:5) Aliens invade the planet. In the end, it's revealed that the "aliens" are actually humans from Earth, on a voyage to conquer alien planets.
So I took number 4, and this is my Synopsis. It might change a little, but I know how I'm going to write it.
A group of friends spend the night in an abandoned building which, decades ago, had been a school, and is supposedly haunted by one of the girls whose brutal murders caused the school to be closed down.
Joining others in the taking of number 1. It was the one that my focus group [i.e. anyone who will listen to me talk about novel fun without saying "... Yeah, we're going to talk about something else now because it's too early for you to become obsessed with NaNo."] really wanted to read.
I'm SO tempted to adopt 2; however, I'd be worried about my characters - whether I'd gender stereotype them, make them too masculine/feminine, etc, which I would absolutely hate.
Thank you for #4. I am adding it to my 'Plot Nibbles' file so that I may refer to it later. It may or may not be a novel. If it does become my NaNo, I'll let you know (and credit you, of course)! Thanks again!
Oh my gosh, I am in love with plot #1! I may be using this if I can work out some interesting sub-plots for this year's nano! Thank you!!!! This is my first time participating, so I'm really new at all of this!
Ahh, I freakin' love this one. I already had somewhat of a plot formed but I might have to use this one instead!

Quote:3) A modern take on Romeo and Juliet. A hitman falls in love with his target, and can't bring himself to kill her. His superiors warn him that he must follow orders or be terminated himself... literally. He devises a plan to fake her death to save both of them from his agency, but it somehow goes horribly wrong and they both end up dead.

Using #3, though they probably wont end up dead. Thanks!
Oh, thank you thank you! My MC for this year would fit really nicely in with #3! I'm going to borrow and tweak this - like an above poster said, they may not end up dead, but I'm really pumped to play with this!
sooooo adopting and tweaking plot one!!!! it's essentially the same, except her name is going to be Marina (shortened to Mary by the three brothers) and instead of being atheist, she's going to be Wiccan and attempt to bring her son up as someone to bring good fortune and publicity and what not to Wicca. but then TWIST, he actually grows up to be an evil sorcerer instead of the peace-loving witch his mom tried to raise him as.
OMG. I love 2. I have a plot from last year that was zombirific, but I didn't use it cause it was boring as hell. THIS changes it so much and--oh. Yay.
lisslo wrote: I'm tucking #1 away in my bank of "to write" projects. Not for this year's NaNo, but I just might give it a go for next year!!!!
I can't stop thinking about this plot since I read it -- even when I sit down to work on my current NaNo novel. Yikes!! Since it's only day four, I am going to spend tonight getting started on this story and see where it takes me. I have a lot of time this weekend to play catch up no matter how I decide I am going to go.
I LOVE zombie stories, I literally can't get enough. If I was an good at writing zombie genre, I would totally steal this. But if someone DOES take this, please please PLEASE let me read it when you are finished!!!
Here's my little plot collection. I posted them last year already. If you're interested in one, please tell me so, I would love to read your result :) And modify all you want!
1. A teenage girl (I imagine her to be about 16-18, but of course she could be older) wakes up, finding she has a complete blackout. She doesn't know where she's been last night, with whom and what she did. She panicks and comes up with the horrible idea that someone gave her knockout drops and did God knows what to her. She gets more and more obsessed with that thought, especially when she has reason to think that she's pregnant. After some talks with friends (who might have been with her that night but went elsewhere her later on), she finds out that she's definitely been hanging with some guy she knows from school (or whatever) and starts to accuse him of having raped her. She starts to turn everyone against the poor boy (maybe even presses charges), maybe even comes up with some fake memories (being convinced that's how it really happened). Then, for some other reason (maybe another "witness"), she suddenly finds out that she was wrong about everything, but is scared to take back her accusations...
2. FMC is really fed up with always having to go through the whole dating process with guys just to discover eventually that the chemistry's just not right. In a talk with her best friend, they come up with a deal - when feeling the want, urge or whatever to kiss somebody, FMC is just going to do it without thinking about it (I originally set the deal up to last for ten guys). First she's really sceptical about it, but then has really interesting experiences. My ideas included: a guy who claims she stole his first kiss; somebody who's actually an arrogant asshole, but that's for some reason exactly what makes him attractive in a way (tension ;)); two guys at once and she has to decide which one she'd rather like to kiss; an I-kissed-a-girl experience... I wanted it to circle about two boys in the end - one she knows from a sport team or whatever club she's in and always fancied, but really hesitates to kiss since she has to see him every week (wanting to be loyal about the deal, she keeps staring at him knowing she has to walk up to him and kiss him, and he eventually talks to her and asks her why she's staring at him so awkwardly); second, her male best friend (who she never saw in that light before, of course ;P) whom she kisses totally out of the blue (even for herself). Sounds pretty banal when I put it that way (like your average romantic comedy movie) but maybe you could use the concept.
3. FMC is on a train, reading a book, when MMC enters the compartment - only minutes later they find out that they have the same book with them, exactly the same copy, which is a kick-off for a long conversation about literature and reading in general. FMC has the time of her life and would really like to see MMC again, but she's really shy and feels that he is out of her league, too. But when he goes to the bathroom, she has an idea: remembering that she has an address sticker on the first page of her own copy of the book, she just swaps his and hers and hopes that he will contact her when he notices... (This was my last year's story, but I couldn't really come up with a storyline past that first scene. In my version, FMC was a young teacher to be and he was a med school student who played in a band. And the book was Südkind's "Perfume".)
4. This one is more of a concept than an actual plot - might also be better suited for a short story: A story is told from one perspective, and by the facts that are given you don't really know what happened. Then you hear the same story from another point of view, and all the holes start to fill in. Not sure if this is understandable... as an example, when I tried to write this, I had a woman go on about somebody who destroyed her life by taking away everything from her (I tried to make it sound like it was about a husband who left her), but the second pov was told by a young man who caused a car accident in which he killed her daughter.
5. MC (who maybe just graduated from high school or something) takes a job tourist guide in their town, but they never really paid attention in history or geography class and actually don't know much about their own home town. So, instead of researching, they just invent some nice little tales to tell to the tourists...
6. Two MMCs are best friends. One day, MC1 tells MC2 that he's in love with him. MC2 laughs it off because he's 100% that MC1 is just joking, so MC1 quickly backs off and drops the topic. But then, MC2 starts to think about it and realizes that he might have been very insensitive, so he starts to look out whether MC1 really seems to like him in a romantic way, plus: how could he have gone years without noticing that his best friend is gay? (Whether they end up together or whatever the whole episode does to their friendship is up to you.) Of course they could also be girls or maybe you could even make this work with a girl and a boy, but I has two guys in mind, because I imagined that the first reaction of a guy having his best buddy confess their love to them would be "yeah, suuure."
Adopting number 3. I took a road trip around the country via Greyhound many years ago and I used to leave books as I was finishing them with "Read Me" post it notes on top and wished I could've asked the person who found the book what they thought after they were done. I am eager to see where this plot takes me.
I really like number 2, even if it isn't my sort of thing. And I wrote something very similar to number 3 my very first NaNoWriMo (which I failed miserably with
I may grab number 3 and turn it into a suspense story. She switched books with him so he'd have her info, but she never considered what might be written inside the boy's copy (sensitive info, a time for an appointment, etc). Cut modern Hitchcock-meets-Before Sunrise plot :)
Will probably end up using a gender-swapped 6 for my NaNo novel, but I'm debating the merits of writing a quick little short story with the genders in tact right now, as a warm up...
Thank you for #3. I am adding it to my 'Plot Nibbles' file so that I may refer to it later. It may or may not be a novel. If it does become my NaNo, I'll let you know (and credit you, of course)! Thanks again!
I'm really liking the fourth one. I think that I might steal it. Maybe not for this year but some little project on the side. It's unique. And it's kind of mysterious.
Every NaNo I've done has been a gay romance and I was thinking about trying something new, but I love 6 and I'm definitely adding it to my list of choices :D
Really liked #3 and think it will work right in with the idea I was already noodling around with - may not be the major plot but definitely one of the substories. Thanks so much for this!!
Mim wrote: 3. FMC is on a train, reading a book, when MMC enters the compartment - only minutes later they find out that they have the same book with them, exactly the same copy,
This gave me a great kick start! Out of left field - for me the book is going to be the same book. As in the actual same book but at a different point of its own timeline... :D thanks! I was so stuck and now I might be able to get started today w00t!
Stealing 3 & 6.... 5 is so funny! Wish I had something to take that with though.... Actually..... 3 may become intertwined with 6. :3 I'm so behind on Nano, it's bad...
Taking number 6 and running with it as a short story i think. Thankx i got a whole story right off the bat. If you wanna read it send me a nanomail. I'll be working on it for the next couple days as i'm sick and i just got my tonsils removed
I better leave a plot, after trolling most of these 'Adopt a plot' forums.
MC was sucked into somesort of cult, and is brainwashed for years into following them like sheep. She slowly begins to realize that this is wrong, and she wants out. Somehow, she makes it out, but the cult members want her back. She's running from these people, who will do anything to get her back.
I am adding it to my 'Plot Nibbles' file so that I may refer to it later. It may or may not be a novel. If it does become my NaNo, I'll let you know (and credit you, of course)! Thanks again!
I may end up using one of these plots for myself in the end, but I figured it couldn't hurt to share them here. If you take one, I'd love to see the finished product! :)
01) A young couple (child optional) open a bed & breakfast after one of their wealthy relatives wills them the business or the money to open said business. They expect to cater to honeymooners, retirees and small families traveling cross-country, but instead their guests are of the supernatural variety (ghosts, mythological creatures, aliens; whatever!).
02) An affectionately written biography of a (fictional) eccentric musician who left this earth too soon, a vibrant movie starlet from the Silent Era or any brand of celebrity you can come up with!
03) A cute young witch, cursed by her powerful older sister, employs an errant knight (I pictured him as a disgraceful half-wit, but write him however you like) for the purposes of revenge. The knight finds himself torn romantically between the adorable yet hot-tempered younger witch and the sultry, magnetic older witch. Much fantasy, action and bawdy humor ensue.
Take the story of the Ousting from the Garden of Eden, but tell the story from Eve's point of view, what happened and how she felt when Adam told her she was made from one of his ribs. How the serpent spoke to her. Just create dialogue and imagination to tell this passage from Genesis in a different POV while making it a story of your own. Do this in chronological order then Eve could speculate on what would happen to them and blame Adam. You could also tell this from the POV of the serpent, or Adam
I started this but never really finished and now I have other things so probably won't get around to finishing it.
I quite like the third one. I'm trying to write a sprawling, magical, fantasy quest-with-a-purpose type of story, and this could be it! I now have two different but similar story lines, where just an hour ago I had none. So yes, I think it's safe to say, I have adopted this great plot. Now I'm off with my plot ninjas to design a fantasy world and plot twists!! (I'm a sucker for family conspiracies and dragons, so I hope you don't mind my inserting them.)
I am absolutely in love and inspired by the first one! I love it! I think I might tweak it so that literary characters show up instead of supernatural beings though. Thanks!!!
I have adopted the B&B plot upon realizing that I couldn't go anywhere with my first plot, due to lack of planning on my part.
But I will leave it here, in case someone else wants it. :)
The setting is a state mental hospital specializing in long-term housing for the severely mentally ill. An experimental drug gets into the water supply. The drug was initially intended to "cure" the insane, but, like Adderall, has an exact opposite effect on the "sane." As a result, a band of previously mentally ill individuals finds themselves beset by newly crazy hospital staff. It's a bit of a play on "the inmates are running the asylum." The catch is, of course, that the now mentally stable survivors recognize that, once the drug supply is gone, they will go right back to being very mentally ill. What moral choices are inherent in knowing that simply fleeing the hospital grounds to get to safety will result in their "getting better" and reverting to their previous mental states, posing a danger not only to themselves, but also to others.
I am adding it to my 'Plot Nibbles' file so that I may refer to it later. It may or may not be a novel. If it does become my NaNo, I'll let you know (and credit you, of course)! Thanks again!
THANK YOU! Oh my god, i thought i'll never be able to start, i got pretty depressed even and then i've seen this amazingly simple idea of yours and it just worked! I've just hit the 1, 667 for the first time! Thank you so much!
A guy who always manages to ruin Christmas for his nieces and nephews by being drunk/rude/stingy is visited by some sort of spirit,a la A Christmas Carol. It may come in the form of a reindeer, who informs him that he will be taken away until he can behave acceptably and stop ruining Christmas for people.
When he awakes he discovers how Santa manages it - he is actually at the North Pole, a specialised rehab centre that only takes one person each year. "Santa" is a different unpleasant person every year, watched over by a gang of elves determined to make him atone for the ways he has disappointed those around him. As his treatment, he must plan, organise and execute Christmas for the whole world.
I really like this plot -- I've decided to write fantasy this year but haven't known where to start, and the idea of a Christmas-hating Santa in need of rehabilitation is perfect! I'll definitely use him and the elves as part of my story.
Glad you like it folks, let me know if you use bits and how it turns out! I've had that floating around in my head for a few months, knew straight away that it should go on here!
Fantastic! I love Christmas and spending a month writing about something christmassy may just get me in the mood for december! I'm gonna steal bits of this!
Thought I should tell you, I ended up dumping my original horror plot and adopting my own version of this one. So thank you! It's really fun to write so far :D
The MC is a quiet, ordinary young man living in the 1900s. He is estranged from his eccentric parents, whose strange lifestyles and quirks make his attempts to gain a social life difficult. He comes to find out the reason why: his father was born with the power to time travel, and is from the year 2009; he met the MC's mother, a self-taught painter from the Renaissance, during his travels, and after they decided to marry, they settled down in the late Victorian period, married, and then had the MC.
Unfortunately, in 2009 the government is aware of the existence of those with the power of time travel, and it's quite illegal. Now, the poor MC has to deal with not fitting in, the fact that government agents from the future are chasing after his family, and the fact that he's inherited his father's powers as well.
I tried writing this years ago, but lost interest. If you like it, take it, and change whatever you like.

Could I adopt this please? There will be some tweaks but I can see it fitting in quite neatly to my current idea/starting point! Thanks!!
Earth is originally a colony. Everyone alive today has forgotten, but long ago people came from outer space to colonize our planet. The skeletons from so-called 'prehistorical humans' are actually an old race of human-like people who died out through the years. The ones who came from space had an accident during their landing and the technology they were going to use to build the colony with broke during that incident. At the same time, their home planet got attacked by a hostile race from a neighbor planet they simply called 'the dark planet' because of it's colour. The dark race slaughtered them all because they ran out of natural resources to use on their own planet. Back to Earth. The survivors from the crash must now continue to survive in a foreign environment with no one left to help them and barely any machinery to help them kill the animals that might attack them. The two generals (one male, one female: may or may not be symbolically named Adam and Eve. You choose.) must ensure the survival of their race while they attempt to repair their broken space ship. When they finally come to the conclusion that it can't be repaired, they have to accept that they are stuck here, a fact that will definitely cause commotion amongst the people.
Bonus point if you make the female general kick ass!! No weak females please.
I like this one! There are so many mythologies that have Humans descended from out-of-this-world/universe peoples. And there are many avatars throughout cultures throughout history!
That first paragraph actually made me think of Douglas Adams' "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe," in which Arthur and Ford find out that a bunch of idiotic travelers from some other planet crash-landed on Earth and are, in fact, the ancestors of humanity, and not the Neanderthals, who seem to have a lot more promise. :D
I really like this plot idea! I don't think I could do it justice, but if someone ever does, I'd read it. :D
having just celebrated my 42nd birthday, one of my gifts was a full set of the Douglas Adams series. My party's theme was "Don't Panic" and I gifted guests with a small towel and a spoon. It was a blast! Pen
i wrote this one already...started it about 25 years ago...have written 29 books in the series and finally put to rest. At least, it's close enough. I enjoyed the writing of it, and have even considered starting a new series on a new world with a new species using a similiar format.
I've added a few onto the "maybe" list, but I hate to post that I'm "taking" them until I actually know for sure that's what I'm doing.
In the meantime, I'll leave this:
(Note that the genders here are all extremely fluid; you could have a heterosexual or homosexual couple, or the roles could be reversed.) A young woman remembers her past life, especially the man she loved. After saving up (or receiving) enough money, she plans to travel around the world in order to find the reincarnation of her lover. She finds a man that claims to be him, and they quickly fall in love and get married. However, the more time she spends around her new husband, the more she notices that he's not exactly as she remembers. She passes this off to both having led very different lives this time around. As time passes, though, the feeling that something isn't quite right about the whole situation grows larger and larger. Eventually, when she asks him, her husband admits to not being the man he claimed to be. What happens?
-I always liked (being a fantasy writer) the idea that the soul of her former lover split somehow upon reincarnation, and even though her husband may not entirely be the reincarnation of her former lover, he still has a piece of the split soul, and that's why they were attracted to each other and managed to marry before she noticed anything was wrong. From there, there's tons of possibilities. Do they get the rest of the soul back? What if all the pieces are in a bunch of different guys? What if she has pieces of her husband's soul inside her?
Take it where you want. Though I'd love to hear if anyone takes it and what you came up with!
This one would make a great M/F/M (or visa versa) if someone runs with the split soul and the idea that someone out there is literally someone's other half... surely that would create its own type of chemistry? All three would have metaphysical ties to the other, and it would be interesting how it would play out. I'd love to see a HEA for everyone involved, rather than a m/f+m friend type HEA. Good luck to whoever attempts Tsukasa's idea! It sounds fascinating :)
Ah, genetic deviance due to cloning.... this could work. See, I knew if I came out to the forum I'd find something useful. Thanks for the inspiration! Pen
Adopt a Plot
I thought I could start :)
Here's the first:
*jumping up and down*
Lady Noble!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I think I'm going to adopt this one and see where it takes me. I've always like historical romances, and this is just really interesting. Probably going to work on it after NaNo, because I'm neck deep in planning with the one I have now. Haha.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Not that I need another regency romance plot, but I'm stealing the both of them, for future use.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Narian has been raised her entire life by a mentor, Tim. Suddenly, something happens, casting her into a different world where Tim can't get to her. Trapped in this dark and strange world of endless night, the one the mysterious woman called Death's realm, Narian must try to find the answers to the reasons she is here, escape the forces trying to kill her, and find her way back to her own world....
Re: Adopt a Plot
If you don't mind, I'd like to adopt this... With different names. Is that alright? :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
Adopting, Tweaking and using for NaNoWriMo, officially.
You are awesome.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Really like the plot. Really like the name Naria, but...............Tim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
Re: Adopt a Plot
Just think of John Cleese in Holy Grail. He played a crazy wizard--named Tim--and rocked it! It really gives you a whole new respect for the name Tim. :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
steal. <3
Re: Adopt a Plot
Adopting! With a few tweaks, including names of characters. I should have known better than to scroll through this thread when I already had a plot in mind.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I might adopt. :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
*G* Snagging to combine with my current plot--it's a good fit methinks!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'll snatch this puppy for later! A few tweaks and I'll have another thing to work on...after NaNo XD
Re: Adopt a Plot
Must adopt! Not for NaNoWriMo though... I'm too far in to switch now and it's much too late in the month.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I might use this... but certainly tweaking it. Might fit with some ideas I've got.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I thought NaRian was NarNian and I got excited! Good plot thought :) Too bad it's not my taste :(
I am a fail when it comes to fantasy...
Re: Adopt a Plot
stolen mwahaha
Re: Adopt a Plot
Ooooh gurl, this is old but I might go ahead and adopt this one!
Adopt a Plot
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm adopting the last one :)
I actually made a character with a similar story and didn't know what to do with her. So thank you!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Yup ... I love the last one too :) gonna give it a go, thanks for the help :3 x
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm adopting the second one :D
Re: Adopt a Plot
such a dangerous thread...should have stayed away as I have my Nano plot figured out. Just wanted to read and see what people had here but kept coming back to this one no one claimed yet. SOOOO I am taking number 1 for after Nano....
Re: Adopt a Plot
Saving the last one for my notebook. :3
Re: Adopt a Plot
I think I'm going to save the last one, too. I'm not sure if I'll ever use it but maybe.
Re: Adopt a Plot
The first one is super interesting. c: I don't know if i'll be stealing it, but i just wanna say that I like the idea a lot.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm going to adopt the first one. With a few tweaks.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Im taking the last one!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Think that I may adopt the last one. Such a good idea!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I love the first one, might just use it :-D
Thanks!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Here we go! Adopting the first one!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm adopting the first onw with some tweaks. Definitely going to be my next project after nano!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I've got a few ideas, but you had me with the hoverboard hint, so I'm gonna take the first one and save it for future use. I may tweak it of course, but I hope you don't mind!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I love the third one... I think I may build on that one!!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I love you!
I have a few character that have been with me forever and I have never been able to settle on a plot for them. And yet here you are setting a stage for them! I thank you and will steal this promptly!
Re: Adopt a Plot
i was going to use this one, but i did a twin theme last year..dont want to repeat!!!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I think I might use this concept and adopt it!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I really love this plot idea! I know I'm super last minute but I'm going to tweak it slightly.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Loving this! Going to adopt and tweak slightly <3
Re: Adopt a Plot
Love it! I may add it to my list of ideas for later, thanks!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I really like this plot. I'm definetly adopting it :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
Oh, your proposed ending is so romantic. :) I probably would have killed Iris off and made it some twisted bittersweet ending.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I might adapt this plot to my story!
Re: Adopt a Plot
oooh....this sounds really interesting! Adopting, but i think it will need some thought! Maybe for after NaNoWriMo!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Thank you for the plot idea :) I may nick this one for the sake of school work actually :/
Re: Adopt a Plot
Ahaha, I might adopt this one too! Maybe with a few tweaks.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Like the first one and am copying for future reference. It's open for a very quirky story.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Something for those if you who are equally last minute.
2 sisters are really close. One falls pregnant, but loses the baby pretty late in the pregnancy. Now the other is contemplating falling pregnant with her husband. What about her sister's failed pregnancy affects her? Is there any jealousy? How will this affect their relationship to each other and their husbands?
I'd love to write it, but as it's partly based on real life, I'm a bit too close to it (except in reality my sis had a second baby that she carried to term before we were thinking about it)
Re: Adopt a Plot
This is a strong idea and would work well in my anthology. I might tackle it from a male perspective though.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Mel, I love the idea. Hmmm Copperstone, although I may think it a little strange, it may have some potential...men getting pregnant :D
Re: Adopt a Plot
I might adopt/adapt this!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Well, I've had this idea forever, but I'm having a hard time writing it.
MC is a teenage/young adult/adult girl, and she is in love with her boyfriend/fiancee/husband. Most of this book is told through flashbacks--when they met, their first date, etc., etc. You get little pieces of the present throughout the book, but only at the very end do you realize that her boyfriend/fiancee/husband is now dead. It's a romance with what i have always pictured as a heartbreaking ending.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Adopting, But I may change it so it's her girlfriend who died. Hope You Don't Mind :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
Adopting too please :).
Re: Adopt a Plot
aah, that would be so sad, i definetly want to adopt this one
Re: Adopt a Plot
Here's one I thought about:
An organization recruits people who've lost everything through some sort of personal disaster (car accident, disease, murder, etc.) to train them as elite fighters. Throughout the book, I imagined the organization seeming very kind and benevolent, but in the end the MC discovers they're the ones staging the catastrophes in order to recruit individuals they feel are especially promising.
Pretty bare bones, but could make for a good thriller.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I love this! I think I may adopt!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Love this one! May adopt as well!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I think I might try this.
Re: Adopt a Plot
My heart went all ba-bump when I saw this, because it's frightening how close this is to my idea for this year, and this filled in some nice details. So thanks for this.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Yay! I'm sure you'll all do wonderful things with it!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Reminds me of Nikita :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
Sounds extremely like the 100 Bullets graphic novel series
Re: Adopt a Plot
I was thinking Nikita, too. :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
yes! ahh i love that show. it is very similar isn't it :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
This is being adopted to my "waiting plot babies" notebook. I'll let you know if I take it further!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Definitely saving this one for future use!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm stealing this one, too. Thanks!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Adopted as a possible sub-plot! Great idea.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Jumping the bandwagon and saving this to my notebook, but I won't use it for NaNo this year because... well. Everyone else is C: Thank you! <3
Re: Adopt a Plot
Thinking about integrating this into my plot though currently unsure how. I think mine needs a kickstart.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Reminds me of Kingdom Hearts and the organization XIII with people who have lost their hearts and have been trained to be extremely good fighters :)
-Ninaizawsum11
Re: Adopt a Plot
May be adopting :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
i liiike it! dunno if it'll work with my current cast, but i think i might try to tweak it!
Re: Adopt a Plot
This is just my speed! I had my idea all planned out, and then I came and saw this. I think I may adopt, if I can manage to leave my other baby! :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
I might put this in my potential plot file. I would tweak it obviously.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Adopting !
Thank you for this. Joining NaNoWriMo this year was on very short notice so I had no inspiration what to write about... until I saw this. :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
Might adopt this for another story. :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
It kinda sounds like Gunslinger Girl! Awesome anime!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Hmmm, might give it a spin, at least in part...thanks for the inspiration.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I am totally adopting this. It's amazing.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I might adopt the "organization that creates catasthropes" for my plot. thx. ^^
Re: Adopt a Plot
Im adopting this and tweaking it... it fits well with my concept
Re: Adopt a Plot
i will definitely take this just for the gist of it, but will definitely tweak it.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Whoa! Very nice plot! I'm totally digging it....
Re: Adopt a Plot
Yoink! Snatching it for a creative writing project that's also due at the end of November.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Love, it. Would love to adopt.
Re: Adopt a Plot
well, I think I might tuck this one away for a project later on as well, I think it might just fit into one of my still on the verge of being an actual idea ideas. So thank you... adopted!
Re: Adopt a Plot
adopt <3
Re: Adopt a Plot
Hmm. mind if I maybe add this in to my plot now? my writing fire is BACK!!!!!
THANK YOU!!!!
BLB <3
Re: Adopt a Plot
Ooooh, this is very cool, I might adopt!
Re: Adopt a Plot
*Gasp!* That sounds a lot like my novel...I may have to do something with this especially since a couple of my characters are orphans.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Some people said the animal spirits live within their people. They are there to guide a person in life and occasionally protect them. Some people say the animals don't exist, that they are just stories from a past that need to be let go.
When dark magic attacks, both sides of the argument are going to learn a painful truth. The Animal Spirits are real, and they are very angry.
I tried to give this fantasy a good home, but it just isn't working for me. Hopefully someone else will see it's true worth.
Re: Adopt a Plot
This looks cool. I'm taking to have a go at after NaNo has finished :). If it works out I'll let you know how I get on but I am slow at writing outside of NaNo so it might take me a while.
Thanks
Re: Adopt a Plot
Taking this too. It's amazing, I'll give it a go. Thanks!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Ooooooooooooooh I like this idea. I'll save it and give it a look after NaNoWrimo is done and I have my other project out of my hair.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I might add this to my already budding idea
Re: Adopt a Plot
This idea is fantastic! I might have to try this out after NaNo - Thanks for sharing ^_^
Re: Adopt a Plot
Using!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I might take this and twist it to use in my Steampunk setting. Definitely a possibility!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I like this too, especially because I love animals and it's true they really could be sent here by God to help protect us. I may wait til after nano though as I think I already have a plot for that, but will definitely use.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I like this one as well...
Re: Adopt a Plot
Hmm...this sounds promising...maybe a few tweaks here and there....hmm.....
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'll be using this as well, probably after nano though. I've got a plot developed for it already :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
Oh, this one has quite some potential. I think I'll adopt it and tweak it a bit. I hope I do it justice!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm so borrowing this, at least in part. It gives me a good role for my main heroine!
Re: Adopt a Plot
i like the part of Animal guides...being a Native American I understand the importance of such. That said, I may not steal the whole plot, but the using of animals in my plot might just work on some level. thank you for the inspiration! Pen
Re: Adopt a Plot
Oh, nice! Adopting for the future!
Re: Adopt a Plot
This is the basis for an RP charrie I've been playing with for a few years. lol! Just thought that was a neat coincidence. *goes back to plot hunting*
Re: Adopt a Plot
This is great. I think I'll try my hand at this one. Thanks!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Adopting this for after NaNo - thank you!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Has a very Native American feel to it. I might just take the basic concept of this and tweak it a little bit....
Re: Adopt a Plot
Re: Adopt a Plot
Number 1 is similar to something I already have in the works so I'm going to take to add to the mix of that story :). If it ever gets finished I'll let you know how I did with it.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I like this! Reminds me a bit of Mastermind. Adding it to my plot stash!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I think I may have to adopt that first one. Thanks!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I really like 2. If you don't mind I'd like to add it to my plot stash.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I love the first one. I'll be adding it to my list. :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
When nano is done I think I will have a go at number 1!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I love Number 2! Definitely adopting this one. The potential is just amazing! Thanks so much
Re: Adopt a Plot
I am adopting #2 to my "waiting plot babies" notebook. I love the idea! I am still a little indecisive about my Nano 2011 story, maybe this will hook me in the next few weeks. I'll let you know if it makes it's way out of my notebook and into something bigger!
Re: Adopt a Plot
A fellow troper, FTW!
The second reminds me of Sky High, a disney movie from like 5 years ago. But the smart villian twist is TOTALLY different, but perhaps you could get some ideas from the movie :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
That's exactly what it reminded me of!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Haha, same! That movie was awesome. Gotta love the old Disney movies. ;)
Re: Adopt a Plot
I really like Number 1, but fear my knowledge of mythology (of any type) is too rusty to use it this year. I can foresee a good chunk of my text being placeholders and/or me spending a lot of time in research instead of actually writing. Definitely parking it in my plot stash, though, and maybe I'll use it next year. Thanks for the idea!
Re: Adopt a Plot
So adopting number one!!!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Totally adopting the second one. :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
Adding #2 to my list of potential ideas.
Re: Adopt a Plot
#2 is delicious, I'm stealing C: Thank you!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Love both of these. I'm taking the first one and seeing what I can do with it.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I may take 1 I already have a title that would work good with this. Thanks =D
Re: Adopt a Plot
I may adopt number two.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Love the Greek gods plot!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I had an AWESOME plot device like this, only involving the Endless from Neil Gaiman. And they werent reborn as mortals, per se, the children were conceived/formed in their realms.....Maybe an idea to go back to?
Re: Adopt a Plot
I may have to adopt them both and combine them.
Re: Adopt a Plot
That first one is actually an interesting idea. Don't usually see that with all the other Greek God based plots thrown around. I may have to try that...
Re: Adopt a Plot
I love the first idea! I might tweak and adopt it, not sure yet. But it's a really good one!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Adopting the second one! Can't wait to get started!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I LOVE the second plot. I'm saving it for future use, if that's ok. Thanks!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Love this idea! I may use parts of this :) Thanks so much!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'd like to take #1 for some other story outside of NaNoWriMo.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Janking 1. Ideas are a flurry in my head. Thanks!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Bah I forgot to mention I may switch it to the Norse gods and I know them a bit better from Lecture.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I could kind of incorporate number one in to my existing plot so am going to adopt with a bit of a face lift if you don't mind. Thanks!
Re: Adopt a Plot
gonna have to adopt the first one :) sounds cool. not sure for NaNo but definitley using it
Re: Adopt a Plot
I like this one, but perhaps the twist is that the MC is the Villain to be... His/her main obstacle is fighting a system that's rigged to fail the villain... could be quite fun!!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Love #1. Adopting!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Fyi, wanted to share that I did actually snatch this one and it's going well thus far. Much thanks. <333
Re: Adopt a Plot
Definitely stealing the first one!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Sky High, anyone?
Re: Adopt a Plot
The first also vaguely reminds me of a book I started to read once and never finished, come to think of it. It... had something to do with the apocalypse... or just the gods bickering. And each of the old pantheons put one representative into a human body for a duel-to-the-death type thing to see who would get to rebirth the world... or something.
/pointless rant
Re: Adopt a Plot
OMG I LOVE THE FIRST ONE!! I'm so going to use that. C: Maybe publish it or something when it's done because this plot is, like, gold.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Definitely adopting the second. Thanks for the idea!!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I really love this one. I've been looking for a "not depressing" story (as my dad likes to say), and this fits the bill PERFECTLY. Thank you for this. Camp NaNo, here i come!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Rachel's life was turned upside-down when her father was murdered, now she's back in her home town to heal and to try to get her life back together. Former town bad boy, Emery, has been waiting for years for Rachel to return, to meet her as an equal and to win her respect and maybe her love. But it won't be easy. Especially as someone from Rachel's past thinks she knows more about her father's death than she's letting on... and will kill to keep old secrets buried.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I like this! I just may adopt!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Ooh. Cool idea! Definitely giving inspiration!
Re: Adopt a Plot
TARDIS! <3
Re: Adopt a Plot
Love this!!! It, like many others, is being adopted to my "waiting plot babies" notebook. i'll let you know if I take it beyond that!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I can dig it. It sparked an idea. Thanks for posting!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I love this, thank you! Adopting as of today.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I think you might have been channeling a little bit of Nora Roberts there :D Nano_Bot
Re: Adopt a Plot
With a little switching of the sexes, this could work... toying with the "return home to heal" theme for this year's nano sci-fi write. Thanks for the inspiration! Pen
Re: Adopt a Plot
Totally adopting this!
since I fell in love with this plot my original one needs a new home...
6 year old Lily Tretcher and 10 year old Grace Tretcher set off on a world of adventure as they drift off into a sleepy wonderland of sweet adventure. Mount Carmel is under seize by an evil dentist who has made it her mission to rid the world of this happy sweets filled city. Led by Mayor Carmel follow Lily and and Grace's adventures as they travel through the many towns of Mount Carmel and take back the city!
Re: Adopt a Plot
This is going in my Plot Bunnies notebook :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
Adopting this!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I may adopt this plot and tweak it a bit to fit it in with my ideas! Thanks!!!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm going to adopt this one :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
Re: Adopt a Plot
May I take this to add to my list of stories to write outside of NaNo? When it gets written (although it may take me a while) I'll let you know, if you'd like to take a look.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I have fallen in love with this. Her name will be Amelia Abbott. His name, Ben Noble. Is that ok?
Re: Adopt a Plot
I may possibly adopt this to intertwine with my current NaNo idea. I'll let you know if it works out!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I sort of adore this idea! It's going into my notebook of ideas to choose from! :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
Might use this for my NaNo, unless another idea hits. It's certainly going on my plots list!
Re: Adopt a Plot
this reminds me of the video game "Catherine" [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catherine_%28video_game%29 ].
Re: Adopt a Plot
YOU YOU YOU I like your picture. :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
i may adopt this to do for NaNo. If I do, I'll let you know!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Oooh, this is going on the list of potential ideas for NaNo 2011.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Ooh!! I would like to write this as a side-project outside of NaNo :) It sounds so adorable!! (stashing away~)
Re: Adopt a Plot
This is going in my plot ideas notebook! :) If I do anything with it, I'll let you know.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I might use this! (:
Re: Adopt a Plot
I love this! Going in my list of choices :D
Re: Adopt a Plot
Taking this to put in my plots folder, If i ever get to it i'll let you know how it turns out
Re: Adopt a Plot
wow i love this! stealing!
Re: Adopt a Plot
In 1808 France two men were in contention over a lady. They decided to settle it like modern gentlemen by having a duel while floating high above Paris in a pair of balloons. They both drew and fired. One of the contestant's balloon was punctured by his opponent's blunderbuss and he fell half a mile to his death.
The above is an actual true story. Write a fictionalized version of the events leading up to this duel.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Oh, I am definitely stealing this for something outside of NaNo. Steampunky short story, here I come.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Snagging this to mess around with sometime. :D
Re: Adopt a Plot
Not taking, but just wanted to say that I would love to read this should it ever get written.
Re: Adopt a Plot
good one... could be translated into sci-fi easily enough. Won't work for the plan I have for Nano this year, but will tuck away for future use. Then, again....maybe a duel of some sort will appear...who knows, the story hasn't told me what it wants to do, yet. Thanks for the inspiration. Pen
Re: Adopt a Plot
This will absolutely end up in my novel! Thank you.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm going to steal this for outside NANO. Thank you. :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
*gasp!* This has sparked an idea!!! Snatching it :3
Re: Adopt a Plot
A typical story about a boy who has feelings for a girl he admires. His best friend is a killer. And the girl he loves is a crack whore. He gets involved in political intrigue, faces a moral dilemma of whether to kill to save, or let things run their due course. As he discovers more about the pasts of his inner circle. He wonders who to trust, and what is the importance of his existence.
Re: Adopt a Plot
This is giving me ideas! Not as the actual plot, but if I'll ever write a story based on a side character's POV, it would end up like this :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
Hmmm...this is giving me interesting ideas. My main character is a boy - can I borrow the best friend killer and the girl (if not crack whore, at least trouble in some way)?
Re: Adopt a Plot
I think I wrote this book, minus the crack whore part.
Re: Adopt a Plot
The crew of an submarine that is due to be scrapped steal the vessel and remove all the warheads inside, leaving only the missiles. Then, they start an unconventional business with the ship: They use the rockets to launch coffins into space. Problems start when the boat runs out of missiles and when one of the coffins accidently shoots down an US spy sattelite.
Re: Adopt a Plot
OMG, I want to read that one.
Re: Adopt a Plot
take it, make it part of your story or convince anyone to take this plot. Then you can read it.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Taking it and making it a part of my story! :D Thanks a lot! :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
Congratulations, you have two people who want to read your story now. One extra reason not to fail the nano ;)
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm going to use (at least most of)this one and make it at least a part of my story.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Ahmahgahd, I love this. I don't know if I have enough knowledge of submarines to write it, but I'd LOVE to read it.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Ok, I will definately use this one. It's too good to pass up.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Seriously, this gave me quite a moment of chuckling. I can just picture flying coffins... reminds me of an episode of "Voyager" where bodies are beamed onto an empty asteroid, only Voyager get's too close and bodies start appearing on the ship. Wonder what would happen if a misfire resulted in a coffin falling back to take out a major city landmark. Who would be charged, the people in the subs, or the corpse? Still chuckling... Pen
Re: Adopt a Plot
1)
A bachelor spreads rumors of his personal wealth to attract a girlfriend. He attracts someone--or something--else.
2)
A girl claims a food allergy in an attempt to make herself interesting to her peers/her family/etc. But now she has trapped herself in a lie and must live by it. Years pass. She wants to escape this lie but doesn't know how.
3)
Your MC has the chance to change one thing from his/her past and must make their decision in three days. What would s/he change and how will the change affect their current life? A variation of this plot is that the MC is forced to change something from his/her past (or suffer some sort of punishment). S/he is comfortable with their present life but have no choice otherwise. What do they change and how are they affected?
4)
A husband swears to discharge his wife of all responsibility to him, for they cannot obtain a divorce, but neither can they remain together.
5)
Three men (though feel free to play with the gender of any of the characters) — MC1, former national hero at odds with the political corruption of his queen and ex-lover; MC2, an idealistic prince in exile; and MC3, a former general whose recklessness led to the slaughter of his men — find themselves without money or friends amid the smoke, grunge, and corruption of the City.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm going to put number 3 in my plot stash :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
It's looking like I might be taking #5 for this year's NaNo . . . expanding on it and tweaking it, too.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm going to incorporate parts of #5 into a story I tried to write for NaNo back in '09. I think, using that, I may be able to fill in the missing bits and make the story workable. :D
Re: Adopt a Plot
LOVE 3 and four!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm going to put either number 3 or 5 in my plot stash. thanks.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Number three looks amazing~ Might use this as a way to balloon my word count with monologues. OTL
Re: Adopt a Plot
I may put #2 into my plot somehow
Re: Adopt a Plot
number 1 speaks to me. I might epxand and tweak it a bit, but looks like a great idea.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Number 3 is great. I am going to adopt it for future use. I am already set for this year.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Thank you for #1. I am adding it to my 'Plot Nibbles' file so that I may refer to it. It may or may not be a novel. If it does become my NaNo, I'll let you know (and credit you, of course)! Thanks again!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm think I'll adopt #3 this year. That seems like it will be such a good story. Love it!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I've adopted #3. Thanks!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Love no 4
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm going to take 3, as a possible plot to use this NaNo, because I have absolutely no plot this year and this plot feels rather good...
Re: Adopt a Plot
i LOVE Idea 2... definitely using it and thankful someone was creative last minute because i couldn't be :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
Oh, 3 and 5 are awesome! I am putting those into my notebook - maybe next year's NaNo?
Re: Adopt a Plot
i might take #3....i was having trouble getting started but this is giving me some ideas.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Loving number three *snag*
Re: Adopt a Plot
Thieving the last two because they are so cool. Stashing them away into my plot stash, thanks for the inspiration :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
Snagging #3 to incorporate in my current novel. I need to switch things up and need to change gears in my story.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I like how number one is so simple. I might try it out at some point for writing, and wow number five sounds absolutely amazing. I'd love to it.
Re: Adopt a Plot
to read it*
Re: Adopt a Plot
Using number three outside of NaNo with some tweaking! Just gotta come up with a title. Haha.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Taking and GREATLY tweaking 5, but thanks!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Re: Adopt a Plot
"Aliens invade the planet. Aliens who look a lot like us, but who are much more violent and bloodthirsty, and who are willing to kill anyone and everyone who stands in their way of taking over. The story could follow any number of characters - soldiers defending their planet, rebels who take matters into their own hands, or a band of innocents just trying to survive. In the end, it's revealed that the "aliens" are actually humans from Earth, on a voyage to conquer alien planets."
Could I possibly adopt this, and tweak the ending, please?
Re: Adopt a Plot
This actually fits into a story I tried writing for Three Day Novel one year. I am gonna steal this and rework that story, though likely not for NaNo.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I love this. I was toying with this time period and an Irish family. Stealing for this or a future nano.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Oooh, I want to do this one. With MAGIC. In January. :)
I need to get off this forum. I already have most of an outline.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Love this idea. Would love to read the story!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Oooh, I love this! I may have to adopt for Nano, it's sparking a few ideas already... Hmm..
Re: Adopt a Plot
Love the idea! Could branch out so well. Sadly, though, it doesn't fit into my nano for this year. I'll tuck it away in my "snippets" file to pull out later and play with. Thanks for the inspiration. Pen
Re: Adopt a Plot
Considering adopting this. It sounds like it'd be fun to work with.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Might adopt. Thanks :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
Various ideas, some of which I've posted in past Adopt-a-Plot threads.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I am very much adopting 1 and 4. Talk about massive inspiration~
Thank you~
Re: Adopt a Plot
I have adopted #1, and it's in the running for my nano project. I've saved it and made some notes, now going to start an outline. Thanks so much!!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I think that i'm going to adopt this one. I may change it up a bit and make it my own but it still seems fun!!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I mean number 3!! :D
Re: Adopt a Plot
Plot #1 would be so interesting to write :). I would love to adopt it.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Number 3 is so cool, bro(ette?)! Really. Might be tweaking and taking!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I am adopting bits of #1 - I'll let you know if it makes it into the story I am hoping to pair it with!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I am going to adopt 4 and 5 and change it up a little. Thank you!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I love 3 & 4...They both have me thinking!! Thanks for sharing.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Taking number three and running and tweaking. Got a burst of inspiration from it. Thank you. <3
Re: Adopt a Plot
I might adopt number four for this years NaNo. I still have to see if I find any other idea's.
Re: Adopt a Plot
So I took number 4, and this is my Synopsis. It might change a little, but I know how I'm going to write it.
A group of friends spend the night in an abandoned building which, decades ago, had been a school, and is supposedly haunted by one of the girls whose brutal murders caused the school to be closed down.
Re: Adopt a Plot
So excited for that.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Joining others in the taking of number 1. It was the one that my focus group [i.e. anyone who will listen to me talk about novel fun without saying "... Yeah, we're going to talk about something else now because it's too early for you to become obsessed with NaNo."] really wanted to read.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Hey, this is just great, 2 inspirational plots. I'm taking 1 and 4 too.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I love 2. I might adopt it. An interesting spin on zombie tales.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I love 1 and 3, I think I'm going to use them for a starting point. I may even incorporate bits of the others. Thank you!!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Thank you very much for the inspiration, I shall be adopting number 1. Phew, I feel like a massive weight has been lifted....
Re: Adopt a Plot
I was telling my daughter about plot #1 and she said, "What if Mary's son is actually the devil?" Talk about a plot twist!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Ack! I LOVE that!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I think number 2 might just become my nano plot!
In a strange way, it's like a wonderfully twisted version of A Handmaid's Tale.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Feminist. Zombie. Story. IT'S BEAUTIFUL. T^T
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm adopting a bit of quote five and mixing it with an exercise I did in Creative Writing class at school
Re: Adopt a Plot
I love #4! I'll be adding it to my list of possible plots, thank you for sharing!!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Hey, wanna switch brains for a bit? I LOVE ALL THOSE IDEAS!! <3 writing them down as we speak. I especially like # 1 & 2. Thanks so much :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
4 is going into my file for future use.
Re: Adopt a Plot
2 Is definitely a Walking Dead/Y the Last Man crossover. I like it :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm SO tempted to adopt 2; however, I'd be worried about my characters - whether I'd gender stereotype them, make them too masculine/feminine, etc, which I would absolutely hate.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I want to adopt 1 and 2 with some tweaking. Both have a lot potential for awesome.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Numbers 3 and 4 are inspiring ideas. I dunno if I can incorporate both in this year's NaNo, but thank you for posting these! :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
Thank you for #4. I am adding it to my 'Plot Nibbles' file so that I may refer to it later. It may or may not be a novel. If it does become my NaNo, I'll let you know (and credit you, of course)! Thanks again!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Maybe I'll use #1 for this years nano. It's a really great plot!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'd love to adopt number 5 for a future writing.
Re: Adopt a Plot
oooh, i'm liking the sound of 1, 2 and 3... thank you for the inspiration!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Oh my gosh, I am in love with plot #1! I may be using this if I can work out some interesting sub-plots for this year's nano! Thank you!!!! This is my first time participating, so I'm really new at all of this!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm adding #1 to my story ideas folder. Very intriguing!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I am thinking of adding the first one as my future story writing
Re: Adopt a Plot
Ahh, I freakin' love this one. I already had somewhat of a plot formed but I might have to use this one instead!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Love number three! I may use this one and change it into a fantasy novel. Thank you for the inspiration!
Re: Adopt a Plot
OMG yes! #2 FTW!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Using #3, though they probably wont end up dead. Thanks!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Oh, thank you thank you! My MC for this year would fit really nicely in with #3! I'm going to borrow and tweak this - like an above poster said, they may not end up dead, but I'm really pumped to play with this!
Re: Adopt a Plot
sooooo adopting and tweaking plot one!!!! it's essentially the same, except her name is going to be Marina (shortened to Mary by the three brothers) and instead of being atheist, she's going to be Wiccan and attempt to bring her son up as someone to bring good fortune and publicity and what not to Wicca. but then TWIST, he actually grows up to be an evil sorcerer instead of the peace-loving witch his mom tried to raise him as.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I am adopting 2. Thank you so much for the inspiration! I might tweak it though :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
i'm adopting #4 for later use
Re: Adopt a Plot
Adopting 1 as my NaNo plot. :D
Re: Adopt a Plot
I think I will use #4... I love the idea. I will make a few tweaks. Thanks
Re: Adopt a Plot
OMG. I love 2. I have a plot from last year that was zombirific, but I didn't use it cause it was boring as hell. THIS changes it so much and--oh. Yay.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I am picking up number 1, deffinitely.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm tucking #1 away in my bank of "to write" projects. Not for this year's NaNo, but I just might give it a go for next year!!!!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I can't stop thinking about this plot since I read it -- even when I sit down to work on my current NaNo novel. Yikes!! Since it's only day four, I am going to spend tonight getting started on this story and see where it takes me. I have a lot of time this weekend to play catch up no matter how I decide I am going to go.
Thanks so much for this amazing idea!!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Stealing #5 for my novel this year. Much needed burst of inspiration; thank you!!! :D
Re: Adopt a Plot
EDIT; Or at least for that good ole "too write" pile, as I may have just come up with a pretty good plot of my own. We'll see. :3
Re: Adopt a Plot
I LOVE zombie stories, I literally can't get enough. If I was an good at writing zombie genre, I would totally steal this. But if someone DOES take this, please please PLEASE let me read it when you are finished!!!
Re: Adopt a Plot
taking number three it sounds great
Re: Adopt a Plot
(Whether they end up together or whatever the whole episode does to their friendship is up to you.)
Of course they could also be girls or maybe you could even make this work with a girl and a boy, but I has two guys in mind, because I imagined that the first reaction of a guy having his best buddy confess their love to them would be "yeah, suuure."
Re: Adopt a Plot
I love number 3, I would love to add this to my possibilities pile!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I have to say, despite being rom-commy, I really like 2. It's piquing my interest. May or may not gank it.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I love number 2! And I think I could incorporate that into my current project!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Adopting number 3. I took a road trip around the country via Greyhound many years ago and I used to leave books as I was finishing them with "Read Me" post it notes on top and wished I could've asked the person who found the book what they thought after they were done. I am eager to see where this plot takes me.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Miramar by Mahfouz is similar to number 4. I love the idea, though. I might be putting it under possible plots. :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
I like number 5 - I am adding it to my short list.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Adopting number 6!
Re: Adopt a Plot
LOVING #5! Adopting it to my "waiting plot babies" notebook, but it may make it's way into something very soon. I'll let you know if it does!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I really like number 2, even if it isn't my sort of thing. And I wrote something very similar to number 3 my very first NaNoWriMo (which I failed miserably with
Re: Adopt a Plot
My plot idea just got a lot more dynamic and interesting thanks to #5.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Using Number 5 for my novel as a subplot! Great idea! I needed a lot of quirky characters and jobs, and this is just perfect!
Re: Adopt a Plot
#3 is mine! And it's a transcontinental jet, not a train, and there's totally a super secret CIA cypher tucked in the pages of his copy. :D
Re: Adopt a Plot
That's totally where my mind went too!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Adopting 5 for a subplot in my novel. Thanks!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Loving #5. I am definitely considering it! :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
I may grab number 3 and turn it into a suspense story. She switched books with him so he'd have her info, but she never considered what might be written inside the boy's copy (sensitive info, a time for an appointment, etc). Cut modern Hitchcock-meets-Before Sunrise plot :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
Love no.5 - Bonus points if the MC is funny. Bonus points if the tourists actually believe these stories.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I think I might weave number 3 into my plot - very adorable.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I really like 3, I might try to work it in somehow.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Number 1 reminds me of a subplot in the first season of Veronica Mars! I just might take it.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm using this as a subplot, if not in this year's NaNo, then in something else. But it is a brilliant idea! Thanks!
Re: Adopt a Plot
#4 may have just jolted some life into my skeleton of a plot!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Filing number 3 away for future use.
Re: Adopt a Plot
1 and 4 most appeal to me but anything i get in here will need to cook on the back burner for a while. Ta Mim.
Re: Adopt a Plot
;o; Number 5... so hilarious... so many possibilities... FFFF WHY AM I RECONSIDERING MY CURRENT PLOT. I really want to write this.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Will probably end up using a gender-swapped 6 for my NaNo novel, but I'm debating the merits of writing a quick little short story with the genders in tact right now, as a warm up...
Thanks for the inspiration! <3
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'd love to try #3...
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm loving #3. Adding it to the maybe pile :D
Re: Adopt a Plot
GAH! . . . I already have two stories I want to do for NaNo . . . now number 5 has me rethinking both . . . . I may just have to use it . . .
Re: Adopt a Plot
Number Two is already percolating in my head, and I'm casting people I know in the roles. I can't get enough chick lit or rom com. It's my thing.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Thank you for #3. I am adding it to my 'Plot Nibbles' file so that I may refer to it later. It may or may not be a novel. If it does become my NaNo, I'll let you know (and credit you, of course)! Thanks again!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I like bits of #2! I'm jotting it down to hopefully use bits of. Once I figure out what I'm doing. Or added to something else I've never finished
Re: Adopt a Plot
Saving #3 in my Plot Library
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm really liking the fourth one. I think that I might steal it. Maybe not for this year but some little project on the side. It's unique. And it's kind of mysterious.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I really like #2. :) I'm gonna use it if you don't mind. What genre would that be?
Re: Adopt a Plot
#4 is very interesting, think I'll have to play with it. Maybe a short story, but could be more, or maybe a sub-plot.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Every NaNo I've done has been a gay romance and I was thinking about trying something new, but I love 6 and I'm definitely adding it to my list of choices :D
Re: Adopt a Plot
Number three is pretty perfect for the type of story I was thinking about writing! Taking and possibly tweaking :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
I think I'll try to adapt #3 into my story...it sounds awesome!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I just might adopt 3 or 5...
Re: Adopt a Plot
I absolutely adore number 3! Definitely using it, with a little molding.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Really liked #3 and think it will work right in with the idea I was already noodling around with - may not be the major plot but definitely one of the substories. Thanks so much for this!!
Re: Adopt a Plot
This gave me a great kick start! Out of left field - for me the book is going to be the same book. As in the actual same book but at a different point of its own timeline... :D thanks! I was so stuck and now I might be able to get started today w00t!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I may grab number two or three. :D I still need a plot to write for the month. XD
Re: Adopt a Plot
Planning to use number three
Thank you!
Re: Adopt a Plot
i might use #3.....its giving me a lot of ideas!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I love #3! Stealing bits of it and tweaking it. :D
Re: Adopt a Plot
2 and 6 are something that I think would figure in as side-plots for my Nano this year. thank yooou.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Taking #2 and tweaking it a bit, but thank you for the starting point!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I really like three and six - snagging for future use :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
Stealing 3 & 6.... 5 is so funny! Wish I had something to take that with though....
Actually..... 3 may become intertwined with 6.
:3
I'm so behind on Nano, it's bad...
Re: Adopt a Plot
Snagging #3 for my plot bunny folder. I adore it!
Re: Adopt a Plot
love #2 in a rom-com sorta way haha. Totally considering trying it.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Taking number 6 and running with it as a short story i think. Thankx i got a whole story right off the bat. If you wanna read it send me a nanomail. I'll be working on it for the next couple days as i'm sick and i just got my tonsils removed
Re: Adopt a Plot
Number 3 is fantastic! stealing!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I better leave a plot, after trolling most of these 'Adopt a plot' forums.
MC was sucked into somesort of cult, and is brainwashed for years into following them like sheep. She slowly begins to realize that this is wrong, and she wants out. Somehow, she makes it out, but the cult members want her back. She's running from these people, who will do anything to get her back.
Hopefully that makes sense. xD
Re: Adopt a Plot
I really like the sound of this. I'm not sure whether I'll be able to use it, but it's definitely sparking some ideas! =D
Re: Adopt a Plot
I like this! Adopting it.
Re: Adopt a Plot
This sounds fairly similar to my non-nano I'm writing at the moment!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I am adding it to my 'Plot Nibbles' file so that I may refer to it later. It may or may not be a novel. If it does become my NaNo, I'll let you know (and credit you, of course)! Thanks again!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Could be either a main plot or a sub-plot. I'm takin' it home.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Re: Adopt a Plot
I Adore that first one xD Might have to steal it.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Love the second one! Might try it out as a novella sometime.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Taking the first one.
Wishing I had something to contribute. I will rack my brains.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I love the idea of a fictional biography, hehe.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Number one is awesome. So many interesting possibilites. I'll try to give it a good home. :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
Oh, I'm stealing number one for future use! I see a "Spirited Away" meets modern day or something...
Re: Adopt a Plot
I am grabbing up the third one! Thank you!
Re: Adopt a Plot
And number one! ^_^
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm liking #2 - the fictional biography. I might have to see what I can do with that... thanks :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
Ooh, all three of these sound interesting. They're going on my list of possibilities. Especially the fictional bio.
Re: Adopt a Plot
The first one gave me an idea I might use, I'v been struggling to come up with something I actually want to write so far, so thank you.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I think I'll try the third one. It might alter a bit though. :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
Am I the only person who saw the second one and instantly thought... "Elvis"
Re: Adopt a Plot
Snagging #1 for my list of ideas! Thanks!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm taking number one. It sounds right up my alley.
Re: Adopt a Plot
This more of a story starter than a plot, but
Take the story of the Ousting from the Garden of Eden, but tell the story from Eve's point of view, what happened and how she felt when Adam told her she was made from one of his ribs.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Love this one. I might just have to try it. Thanks for the idea!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm writing it from Lilith's point of view. Thought that might be even more interesting.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Really like this idea. Putting it in my pile!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Taking the first to add to my list of ideas. :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
Thank you, numbers 1 & 2 are speaking to me so consider them adopted :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm loving #1! I haven't been able to come up with a coherent plotline for this year, so this may well be it. Thanks!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I quite like the third one. I'm trying to write a sprawling, magical, fantasy quest-with-a-purpose type of story, and this could be it! I now have two different but similar story lines, where just an hour ago I had none. So yes, I think it's safe to say, I have adopted this great plot. Now I'm off with my plot ninjas to design a fantasy world and plot twists!! (I'm a sucker for family conspiracies and dragons, so I hope you don't mind my inserting them.)
Re: Adopt a Plot
I might adopt the second one, so many ideas for it already!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm diggin' #2...it seems like a good challenge...:)
Re: Adopt a Plot
A fictional biography sounds VERY fun. almost like the story from the POV of an imaginary friend one that was floating around last year.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I am absolutely in love and inspired by the first one! I love it! I think I might tweak it so that literary characters show up instead of supernatural beings though. Thanks!!!
Re: Adopt a Plot
#1 for me. Thanks!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Oh love the first one! It's definitely going into my maybe-plots notebook!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Love that first one! I will have to adopt it. Maybe not for Nano, but for use shortly thereafter.
Re: Adopt a Plot
If you can do something with this, let me know!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I think this is a really neat idea!! Grabbing it for future use :D
Re: Adopt a Plot
I love the first and second. Adopting;*
Re: Adopt a Plot
Definitely loving #3-- all the more because I have an older sister who probably would curse me. ^_^
Thanks!
Re: Adopt a Plot
One and three are definitely being nicked for my plot files, thanks :D
Re: Adopt a Plot
adopting the first one dunno when i'll get to it though so if i can i'll let you know
Re: Adopt a Plot
Number 3--I love it so. *Sighs happily.*
I should have known that it would be dangerous to come here...
Re: Adopt a Plot
The uninspired writer of a fantasy series (or any other genre) is sucked into the universe of his next book.
Re: Adopt a Plot
This is very similar to a story I was already working on so maybe this is a sign!!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I am adding it to my 'Plot Nibbles' file so that I may refer to it later. It may or may not be a novel. If it does become my NaNo, I'll let you know (and credit you, of course)! Thanks again!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I am totally adopting this for my nanowrimo, I'll let you know how it turns out.
Re: Adopt a Plot
THANK YOU! Oh my god, i thought i'll never be able to start, i got pretty depressed even and then i've seen this amazingly simple idea of yours and it just worked! I've just hit the 1, 667 for the first time! Thank you so much!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Re: Adopt a Plot
I really like this plot -- I've decided to write fantasy this year but haven't known where to start, and the idea of a Christmas-hating Santa in need of rehabilitation is perfect! I'll definitely use him and the elves as part of my story.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Looks like the writing buddies thing isn't up yet, but I'd love to see how it turns out! The idea is fascinating :D
Re: Adopt a Plot
I am not sure if I can do it justice, but I sure want to read this!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I adore this, I already have my idea for nano, but may steal for later use.
Re: Adopt a Plot
This is perfect. Perhaps not for NaNo this year, but it's definitely going in my 'ideas' folder.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Glad you like it folks, let me know if you use bits and how it turns out! I've had that floating around in my head for a few months, knew straight away that it should go on here!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Fantastic! I love Christmas and spending a month writing about something christmassy may just get me in the mood for december! I'm gonna steal bits of this!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I'm not going to take this but I just wanted to tell you that this is an epic plot and I would LOVE to read this!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Cackling laughter...I can see the comedy in plot, right now! Would be great for a script for a hollywood hit!
Re: Adopt a Plot
That's because it's a lot like the Santa Clause with Tim Allen. Great idea though, I'm really tempted to use it :) I <3 Christmas!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I can picture Billy Bob Thorton as this year's "Santa"! :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
i'm going to use this i think.
i really need to stop reading this forum....i keep getting distracted by all these great plot ideas :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
Thought I should tell you, I ended up dumping my original horror plot and adopting my own version of this one. So thank you! It's really fun to write so far :D
Re: Adopt a Plot
I really like this one. May tweak a bit and adopt for new NaNo plot. Thank you!
Re: Adopt a Plot
Re: Adopt a Plot
I may use this for my novel this year! I'm definitely keeping it in my ideas file for future use, in any case. I think it's a great idea. :D
Re: Adopt a Plot
Just commenting to say I'd love to read this!
Re: Adopt a Plot
TAKING!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I might be able to do something with this. Thank you.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Wow. Love this. Taking!
thanks :D
Re: Adopt a Plot
Good one! Doesn't fit my needs this year, but will tuck it away in my "snippets" file for later play. Pen
Re: Adopt a Plot
I might use pieces from this. I have a character who's looking for a plot to be in, and a variation of this would suit him quite well.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Could I adopt this please? There will be some tweaks but I can see it fitting in quite neatly to my current idea/starting point! Thanks!!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I love it and i am taking it for my plots folder :P
Re: Adopt a Plot
Re: Adopt a Plot
I like this one! There are so many mythologies that have Humans descended from out-of-this-world/universe peoples. And there are many avatars throughout cultures throughout history!
Re: Adopt a Plot
That first paragraph actually made me think of Douglas Adams' "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe," in which Arthur and Ford find out that a bunch of idiotic travelers from some other planet crash-landed on Earth and are, in fact, the ancestors of humanity, and not the Neanderthals, who seem to have a lot more promise. :D
I really like this plot idea! I don't think I could do it justice, but if someone ever does, I'd read it. :D
Re: Adopt a Plot
I was thinking that too--I just reread that book.
Re: Adopt a Plot
having just celebrated my 42nd birthday, one of my gifts was a full set of the Douglas Adams series. My party's theme was "Don't Panic" and I gifted guests with a small towel and a spoon. It was a blast! Pen
Re: Adopt a Plot
Actually, more like the finale to Battlestar Galactica
Re: Adopt a Plot
that's what I thought!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I really like this plot. I may do a variation on it. We'll see. I'm adding it to my maybe pile
Re: Adopt a Plot
I've been looking for something like this, adding it to my list and we'll see if it makes it to NaNo, since I don't have my idea yet. Thanks.
Re: Adopt a Plot
i wrote this one already...started it about 25 years ago...have written 29 books in the series and finally put to rest. At least, it's close enough. I enjoyed the writing of it, and have even considered starting a new series on a new world with a new species using a similiar format.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I've added a few onto the "maybe" list, but I hate to post that I'm "taking" them until I actually know for sure that's what I'm doing.
In the meantime, I'll leave this:
(Note that the genders here are all extremely fluid; you could have a heterosexual or homosexual couple, or the roles could be reversed.)
A young woman remembers her past life, especially the man she loved.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I love the idea behind this.
Re: Adopt a Plot
This one would make a great M/F/M (or visa versa) if someone runs with the split soul and the idea that someone out there is literally someone's other half... surely that would create its own type of chemistry? All three would have metaphysical ties to the other, and it would be interesting how it would play out. I'd love to see a HEA for everyone involved, rather than a m/f+m friend type HEA. Good luck to whoever attempts Tsukasa's idea! It sounds fascinating :)
Re: Adopt a Plot
I second the interest in reading a HEA threeway based on this plot!
Re: Adopt a Plot
I would love to try my hand at this. Thanks for sharing your idea! <3
Re: Adopt a Plot
Sorry for the double post. I can't figure out how to edit my own post.
Anyway, I was going for the split-soul one.
Re: Adopt a Plot
Ah, genetic deviance due to cloning.... this could work. See, I knew if I came out to the forum I'd find something useful. Thanks for the inspiration! Pen
Re: Adopt a Plot
I might take this and tweak it a bit. It fits with my idea and it's something i could write.
Re: Adopt a Plot
I've been looking for something like this. I'll probably tweak it a little, but I'll keep the general idea. Thanks!
