Wow,my grandmother's father was Powhatan, his family name was Preserved Fish Dakin. I haven't met anyone else who has that Native American heritage. Good Luck on the writing !
Tallulah is a Cherokee name meaning "falling water". It was the name of an old-time star--Tallulah Bankhead--who didn't give the name the most positive spin, but now that she's forgotten, the name is making a minor comeback.

Avery Blaize Finchley. I really want a tomboy with that name, but I can't fit it in, so I hope she gets a good home, and a marvellus adventure! Saffie :)
I might just have to use Avery Finchley. She's not a tomboy, and this isn't even for my NaNo, but I've been looking everywhere for unusual names for a story I've been sitting on. It's been dormant for a while, but I was looking on the forum for a town name for something else and BAM! The Plot Bunnies hit me in the face and I had to come here and look for a name.
1) give her a normal, female given name, and then find a nickname from that. You could give her a name like Samantha or Alexandra, which obviously have unisex nicknames. Another option would be Danielle, and instead of going by the common 'Dani' insists people call her 'Dan' or changes the i to a y to sound less feminine. Not all nicknames are obvious, I've never met anyone else who uses the same nickname I do, (with the exception of my choir director sometimes just using the first syllable of his wife and co-director's name, which is the more common name. She and I share the same given name). 2) Give her a unisex name. Some unisex names might 'scream' a gender to you...like, I'd normally consider 'Blair' 'Brett' 'Brynn' and 'Carter' to me male names, yet I have read a female Blair, and it worked. Could her more male sounding name have affected her being a tomboy? Other names like "Sidney" "Jordon" (in any of it's various spellings) "Riley/Reilly/other spellings" "Taylor" "Cameron" aren't usually gender associated. Still others like "Addison" and "Ashley" generally indicate female... but maybe she doesn't like that and could go by Add, or Ash, or such... Interesting fact: Evan is a unisex name. babynames.com has a fairly good list of names and meanings.
Just wanted to comment and say my name is Amelia and it means "hard-working" or "hard worker" in old German. I choose a lot of my character names based on sound AND meaning.
Location....right now, Washington DC. Tomorrow, who knows?

I am going to adopt Lady Arabella Amelia Armstrong-Jones! (But instead of Lady, i'm going to change it to Mrs, as I was going to use the name for the teacher in my novel)

May be adopting several. Not sure which ones, so I've copy-pasted the whole list into my Characters/Fantasy and Adventure Dares/Random Adopted Stuff Word document.
Just like last year,I will throw some Korean names into the mix! :D
Last names (they go first in Korean): Kim Lee Park Jo/Cho Choi Hwang Yang Moon Jung Jang Seo Ha Bang Shin Yoo Yoon Ahn Oh Sung
Names (can be written together or separately if you want to cheat and boost your wordcount): Tae Mi Kyu Mi Dong Joon Dong Joo Hyun Joon Mi Rae Kwang Min Young Joon Jae Hwan Jae Hoon Jae Seop Jae Won Jae Woong Joong Ki Dan Bi Han Byul Han Chul Hee Chul Sun Kyu Da Hee Do Hee Mi Sil Won Bin Hyun Bin Seung Ho Tae Ho Sung Hyun Sung Min Jang Mi Hyun Ah Min Ah
etc etc
And the truth is, you can mix them together (take two from the list above and create new one, for example: Han Hee). Have fun!
Thanks! I'm adopting Willow and it even gave me some ideas about her character as well as having a twin brother. Who would have thought so many ideas could come from one name!
Taking Willow. Thanks so much :) I HATE it when I don't have a name for a character. I can never get any details down unless I have the name! Annoying, I know.
So thank you very much. Now I can develop my #MC with a sigh of relief.
Lief and Oskar are definitely in the running for a character I need in my next scene! (or well, somewhere else... acutally. Man. I love them, but they don't fit with my Air Force Lieutenant.
Mix-and-match time...Luka Keaton! Perfect for my character in another piece (these forums come in very handy even after NaNo's over!). Smooth talking, charming, yet only very slightly extremely evil.
His Imperial Accusation, Emperor Don Kellan de Mahzed Professor Doris Cowl Elisandra Marianne Clairemont Kelsey Maddox Archduke Franz Alastair Heiderich the Second
Eden just might work...my female character is giving me fits as she hates the names I've come up with so far...but she actually seems to fancy that one!
I might take Felix and/or Avenel for a vampire in a steampunk story I want to do. Still need a last name though, unless I just make Avenel his last name.
Delilah Clayton Ringo Wernstrom Jacob Billingsly Remy Harrington Lakshmi Quintus Claudius Apollo Titus Thaddeus Thomason. Atlas Mancini Vianka Mikkel Rasmussen Katya
I think I might like to adopt Zenobia (first name only) for my FMC. She doesn't feel much like a Zenobia, but she feels like she could be a Zen-for-short, and her little crafting/spinning shop could incorporate 'Zen' into the name, especially since I find spinning to be a very zen activity.

Coincidentally, I have tomboy character named Charlie. :D

I agree with Amelia, Radish is awesome. I might actually have a younger character that I can name that. :D
Re: Adopt A Name
Avery Blaize Finchley. I really want a tomboy with that name, but I can't fit it in, so I hope she gets a good home, and a marvellus adventure!

Adopting Zenobia Addison. It's an unusual sounding name.
Re: Adopt A Name
I think I might like to adopt Zenobia (first name only) for my FMC. She doesn't feel much like a Zenobia, but she feels like she could be a Zen-for-short, and her little crafting/spinning shop could incorporate 'Zen' into the name, especially since I find spinning to be a very zen activity.

I'm adopting Ridley as a first name! Love it!
