Adopt a Hypothetical (What If)

Throw em here, folks!

What if the evil cult summoned up an eldritch abomination that violently disapproved of sacrificing humans to summon eldrich abominations?

What if food ate people?

What if everyone was colour blind except the protagonist?

What if people didn't wear pants?

What if a high school student was accidentally elected president?

What if we all owned phoenixes?

What if aliens were more interested in our dogs then us?

What if cars ran on water the whole time of their invention and not gas?

What if the Earth's gravity suddenly decreased by half?

What if every organic based man-made object on the planet came back to life? ex. your hamburger runs away mooing, the books on your shelves set down roots and start sprouting...

What if cats were evil creatures planning to take over the planet?

What if humans would have evolved from birds instead of apes?
What if vampires acted in reverse and took super-humans down to human levels?
What if fae wiped out humanity and took the earth as their own?

What if all the children in the world vanished at the same time and reappeared one hour later as adults?

What if all diseases in the world had been eradicated?

What if time began to run backwards?

What if aliens/the Rapture/SomeOtherThing took every living creature off the planet but, for some reason, left one person behind?

What if the government was training sleeper cell agents through subliminal messages broadcast on TV game shows?

What if something huge happened, but for some reason, only one person remembered it the next day?

What if our whole world was just a dream of a slumbering eldritch abomination?

What if the Roman Empire never fell?

What if, we're all the dream of an eight year old girl, who lives in Slough.

And she's currently having a good nights sleep.

Shhuuussshhh!

What if, when you fell in love, you gave the object of affections your literal heart instead of your metaphorical one?

What if the man/woman you fell in love with turned out to be your alter ego?

What aliens came and turned out to be intergalactic insurance salesmen?

What if the god we believe in (or don't) is just a very stressed writer who's working on a tight deadline and has numerous times almost given up because there seems to be no plot?

What if you woke up tomorrow, and found out your whole life until now had just been a dream preparing you for your REAL life?

What if every time we thought someone died it just meant they woke up to go live their real life?

What if America is the next civilization to fall? How would that affect those of us who live in America? The other countries?

or somewhat more lighthearted...

What if you found out that you were unwillingly signed up to host the next major party. the one that defines how everyone thinks of you, how they treat you, how you'll be remembered for practically forever in your town?

What if you were really drunk one night, found your soul mate, and woke up the next day and couldn't remember what they looked like or lived but you COULD remember their name?

What if you woke up and found out that you were now the opposite gender?

What if zombies were an endangered species protected by various laws etc?

What if fire and the wheel were never invented?

What if the entire thing is just the gods' twisted sense of a practical joke?

What if Brazil became the most powerful nation of the 20th Century, instead of the US?

What if the Napolean Empire never fell?

What if the Aztecs, Mayans, and Incas withstood the assault of the conquistadores?

What if the US was embroiled in a civil war between the CSI, the Armed Forces, and the state militias?

What if Adolf Hitler came from South Africa, and took over that continent?

What if a religious zealot in Russia caused severe civil unrest with his apocryphal, and true, predictions?

What would happen to the survivors of a nuclear holocaust that had to live together in a tiny bunker for a year?

What if the 3rd world war started in South America?

I like those "alternative history" ideas. I'm a huge history nut but don't feel confident enough to attempt a "serious" historical novel yet. This kind of idea might be it for me. I'm not sure I'll adopt one of the ideas posted here, but in any case, thanks a lot for the inspiration...
