My favorite so far is in my first scene. First line is given for context.
Quote:Even Kensington felt a little more awake as he watched; feeling the small prickles on his skin at the sound of it, breathing the smell of burning flesh, seeing the hideous look of the man being tortured. Or maybe it was the electricity traveling through the air that made the hair on his arms stand.
Quote:April chewed on the bread slowly. She looked at Preston, her eyes proving she had been asleep also, and she asked, “How’d you get this, and why does it taste like bleach?”
Quote:“Yeah, you could beat her up with one hand tied behind your back if you wanted to,” Lea closed her eyes and nodded her head vigorously. Okay, so Lea was missing something. Maybe the fact that Betty had /super strength/ had skipped her mind? Or that Betty went to the gym /every day/ was above her head too. What about the fact that Betty had /beaten up a thirty two year old man/ with one hand tied behind her back…literally? Had she forgotten about that too?
Quote: It’s like one of those times when you’re on a roller coaster and you go down a big hill or flip upside down and then, just as you’re struggling to get back your breath from that, something else happens.
"Great Uncle Odell bought some baby pigeons," Kento offerred. I looked over at him, surprised that he spoke up and curious as to where it would lead. I raised my eyebrows asking the silent "and?" "He lets the baby pigeons go and shoots them for his cat," Kento said.
Okay, my favorite three lines but it just tickled me. Squab for an eighteen year old cat.
Quote:Anyone there would say to you they heard fanfare of success as Grato burst through the trees. That face showing the warrior everyone knew he was; mouth wide, saliva dripping from his teeth like wild beast, axe high above his head. “Rrraaaaaah!”
SKEWCK!
Blade of Grato’s weapon embedded deeply in the nightmarish creature’s face. Or what Grato assumed to be the beast’s face as that is where all the teeth were.
While Cruizshef’s position gave him power, Charlie’s gave him even more power. While the sleek, modern black rifles of Cruizshef’s foreign bodyguards – so charitably contributed by the world’s modern liberal democracies – held power, their power was wasted. Pointed downwards in a safe direction as the men clustered protectively around the speaker. No rifle ever did any good pointed at the ground.
Charlie’s own Dragunov sniper rifle wasn’t as modern as theirs, but it held infinitely more power in its current position, with the scope’s glowing reticle playing over Cruizshef’s heart.
Quote:Will leaned in closer to the fire, half because he didn’t want to be overheard, and half because it was fucking freezing outside.
“You sure this’ll work?” he asked Jack.
“Of course it’s going to work.” There was that familiar flicker in his eyes, and Will was certain it wasn’t just a reflection off the flames. “When has a plan of mine ever failed?”
“Every time,” Will said. “They fail every time.”
“That,” Jack said, smirking, “would depend on your definition of ‘failure.’”
“Getting punched in the face feels like a failure.”
UGH, I have so missed writing them as actual friends.
Quote: "You can stop hitting [the car], you know? [The air conditioner] broke up somewhere near Nashville; four hours ago." "I'm not hitting it," I insisted. "I'm just patting it really, really hard."
Quote:The tradition was to have a suprise party for each person’s birthday done by the other two. However, since they did it every year, it really wasn’t a suprise anymore.
"This is our world. It might not be the world we began, but it’s the one we’re going to end. When flesh for flesh is traded in pound for pound ratio, when life and death is nothing but two sides of the same coin, that’s when we will call it done. That’s when we will lay down our heads to rest. We’ll look at the world, not the one we built, but the one we crumbled to the ground."
It's the very first thing I wrote and I'm just so dang proud of it. ^_^
"Well, Cherry," he beamed as the wagon rolled along, "Let's hope the king has need of an adventuring mage and not just one to prepare him a salve for some boils."

This makes me think of Walking Dead and I get all warm inside. GREAT visual!
wrote:I’d met men like him before, who thought that reading a book about a thing was the same as doing a thing, and would stubbornly argue with you about your first-hand experience. Men who believed that experience could be absorbed from the page by intellectual osmosis. You know, an arrogant prick.
Quote: Perhaps I never really forgot that terror I felt the day she was murdered.
To see her hurt, to witness the light go from her eyes as she whispered for me to run and never look back...those are things no child should ever have to go through. No child should have to see his mother die.
wrote: “You’re going to break my chair if you sit in it like that, Gabe,” Kate pulled up her sheets, holding them above her chest with one hand and stretching with the free one. “Good morning to you too, Sunshine. If I recall correctly, it was my money that bought this furniture, therefore, it would happen to be my chair and I’ll thank you to let me sit on it any which way I please."
Rex pored himself a glass of ale and took a long drink. “So, I had an interesting conversation with Kera earlier.” Leander raised his eyebrows. “She said that Jentian plans to exceed spending, and wants to continue to fund his border disputes with Kalalit.” Leander snorted. “His people are starving, and all he cares about is more land. What a coward. If he was serious, he would invade Kalalit directly instead of chipping away at the landscape.” Rex shrugged. “Perhaps he’s trying to capture outposts first.” Leander shook his head. “When it comes to useless outposts, Dunvegan is as unremarkable as it gets. It’s in the mountains and borders both Kalalit and Keota. I’m no strategist, but I can tell a worthless piece of land when I see it.” “Well, it could always be a ploy for more tributes.” Rex said. “Ah, yes. More additions to his harem and gold for his coffers.” “Our king is a man of insatiable appetites,” Rex reminded his friend. “His appetites are going to get a lot of good people killed.”
"His slicked-back voice wafted outward from the television screen like a serpentine line making its way across a desert plain, soothing, greasy. The kind of voice you ache to take out to dinner at a fancy restaurant and throw wine in its face."
V wore a blue colored blazer, with light blue shirt and red tie under it, and she also has unique features that make her, well, special. A real light blue colored cat ears and light blue colored cat tail. Z’s gaze follow the trail of V’s tails, that is back and forth, left to right, before she shakes her head. ‘That was indeed distracting...’ Z thought, before focusing on the blond in front of her.
And this.
“I can’t wait... To end everything...” V stated, before she touched her blue colored cat ears. “But, Z, You really are evil incarnate... The Omega from Alpha and Omega, indeed.”
Arrggghh.. excuse me for the grammar, but I hope you get the gist of it. :3 Hmmph, character name is a character. xD
