My characters are not acting like they're in an adventure novel. I've only killed one person and kidnapped one other. They're talking through everything. When they drive somewhere, they just drive. I have only had one (very lame) car chase. Nothing has blown up. For God's sake, they're waiting until morning to save the kidnapped person instead of saving them in the middle of the night! THEY ARE EATING GRANOLA BARS. I do not know what's going on anymore.
Sorry. I needed to vent and this seemed like a good place.
you could make it like mundane adventure - showing the boring everyday real life version of what other books and films show as adventurous lives? kind of like the way Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy or John Le Carre novels generally show the boring world of bureaucratic infighting that goes on in the real world of spies.
Well, at least it hasn't turned into a romance! (-=
When my adventure gets exciting, my MC's want to talk. And talk. And talk. Right now, the bad girl is going to burn down the house with the old man knocked out and my FMC tied to a chair. Does a fight ensue? No, more talking. And I even have a strong silent MMC. What's he doing? He's at the jail, bailing out the nephew suspected of doing all the damage.
December is all about editing. Then maybe you'll find some more excitement!
Would it help at all to post situations and have us on the forum think of random things to make go wrong? If you just have rampant characters who refuse to cooperate with exciting circumstances, though, that may not work. :/
Can you punish them? Since they're not trying to go help the kidnapped person, make them pay for it; perhaps that person sustains a broken bone from interrogation (or just because the villain is a jerk). Their granola bars COULD even be spiked with hallucinogens...
Things need to be happening faster! You can't give your characters time to think, or plan, or talk. They just have to act! If it's not adventure, if they are just driving and eating granola bars....skip ahead to the action!
This is not adventure anymore... :(

Good luck on finishing!
